I don't know about you but I will not be setting foot in the new BB&B store that just opened up in South Common!:nono:

Maybe they should boycott all fuels and bring their stock in by wagon trains.
And heat their shop by rubbing sticks together at the door:rolleyes:

Exactly, any boycott like this is lip service and the best of times. When you fuel up at any station of your choice do they tell you if the oil used to produce the fuel came from an oilwell in southeast Sask or a mine in northern Alberta. They take whatever fuel is exiting the refinery at the time they order it. Just saying.

I think I'll boycott Bed Bath and Beyond anyway, who am I kidding you'd need to force me in there at gunpoint at the best of times.

U.S. retailers boycott Canadian oil sands
Dina O’Meara, Canwest News Service

Bloomberg
CALGARY - The Canadian oilsands suffered another public relations blow after two major U.S. retailers announced they were shunning fuel from there in favour of greener gasoline for their fleets.

Organic foods grocery chain Whole Foods Market and household accessories chain Bed Bath & Beyond said Wednesday they were actively seeking alternatives to oil-sands fuels to reduce their carbon footprints.

Wednesday's announcements underscored the need for Alberta's oil patch to step up their communications campaign and dispel misconceptions around their operations, said federal Environment Minister Jim Prentice.

"The oilsands, at the end of the day, are an essential part of the overall supply-demand balance in North America," Mr. Prentice told the Calgary Herald. "But they do have to be developed in an environmentally responsible way. Industry, in particular, is going to have to tell its story and explain the real facts."

It remains to be seen if there is significant backlash from Canadians against these retail operations.

"I don't want anything more to do with (them)," said Calgary resident Jeff Thornborough. "As far as I'm concerned, if someone doesn't want to do business with me, and I'm an Albertan and take it personally, I don't want to do business with you."

Oh well...more for us and less for them. Who needs another US chain that opens here then packs up when their asses need bailed out anyways. Didn't Michael's and another Craft Store chain just close up in Canada last year and move back to Connecticut? I say send BB&B packing then!

We should ship all of our oil accross the pacific, so the americans have to get their oil from the middle east, That makes sense??? That is so much more enviromentally friendly?!?! American Stores like these, I will not shop in, if this is the way they will PR their business!

1. How can they tell where the fuel in their tanks comes from? Russia, Alberta, Kuwait, Saudi?

2. It's an advertising gimmick. The companies are trying to boost sales using this tactic. Having it in the news only adds to it by giving it attention.

3. Not that it'll happen, but turning off the taps to the US for a few days will change things. When the these same people have to line up for 3 hrs just to fill up their cars (think back to 1970's oil embargo) and they have to pay $5/gal or more, their already fragile economy fails completely, all of a sudden Oil Sands won't be so dirty.

Again - very typical idiotic baised media report. This is jus a PR campaign to make their products look "greener" to the consumer, BB&B is like a smaller version of The Body Shop.

The ironic part of this all, and the biggest part that BB&B and the media neglected to mention, is that they market, wrap and sell all their products in plastic containers. Anybody know where plastic comes from?????? You guessed it BB&B you dish!ts, OIL!!!!! What a fuggin' joke this company is. So they move to a "greener" gasoline.... pffft. The best way they could reduce their carbon footprint is to start handing out their liquid soap and shampoo's in brown paper bags made from recycled paper. Think that would be high hit with consumers? LOL

This is just a PR and ad campaign to get free advertising for BB&B, but really will only demonstrate a marginal benefit to the environment. This is just a "feel good" story for their PR dept to tell the media for free advertising and nothing more than sugar coating of the truth. Next month they will be in the news saying they won't buy oil from third world countries because of the labour conditions. Only problem is, they won't realise they are taking jobs away from some poor bugger who keeps his family fed. This poor dude will then resort to piracy on the ocean and far more fuel will be burnt by US and NATO destroyers patrolling the shipping lanes, protecting the latest shipment of BB&B products destined for south Africa and Europe, then BB&B would have ever saved by buying the oil from this third world country in the first place.

But so long as the carbon emissions of the 100,000 tonne warship plowing through the ocean guzzling 10,000 gallons of fuel an hour, gets tacked onto someone else's carbon footprint quota, they can feel good about themselves. Total BS.

"Environmental" has just become a buzz word for all these companies.

Someone should tell these douche nozzles to pull their heads out of their @$$es.

Mybe they should start by saying they won't use anything derived from Iraqi or Saudi oil. Far, far, far dirtier oil than AB's oil. Consider all the fuel burnt to support the war, billions spent to fund the war (that could have been used to fund "greener" research) or the cost of lives lost over oil. Need I say more?

I think this is all part of the US master plan. Say everything in China is made of crap. Mass media attention slagging Toyota and now I hear Honda too. Then play on AB's "dirty oil". Funny how this dirty oil issue comes out only days after the US and Canada made an agreement to relax the "buy American" campaign.

Just more of those things that make you go Hmmmm.........

Last time i checked tanks, jets, ships etc... burn a sh*t ton of oil securing "clean oil" in the middle east. I'd bet if you factored in shipping and war machine oil consumption, the oil out of the middle east does far more damage to the enviroment by the time it gets to North America. I'm not saying the tar sands isn't doing enviromental damage but in my opinion it's the lesser of 2 evils. Our oil might be dirty but none of their soldiers need to give their lives to obtain it, thats gotta be worth something. So i say f#%k them tree huggers.

Save the forests, wipe your a$$ with the spotted owl.
