Being Deaf ...and money

Have had hearing aids since 05, didn't really like em. Felt like I was just as deaf only louder

Spendy little things, 1500 bucks a side. Well I quite using them after about two years. Lately I have been noticing a drop in my hearing so I go and get it checked out and sure enough my hearing has dropped 25 decibels....thats alot for those who dont know. What with the piss poor snow conditions around here we took some of our fun $$$ we set aside for riding in the winter and bought BETTER hearing aids. These are way better than my old ones, more comfortable , better features like blue tooth for the phone and can hook em up to the tv. Cant wait to be able to hear the wife's kind words of encouragement

Being deaf sucks way bad. Dino

yah i had a friend in high school that had them. they were horrible....they have come a long ways with them. my uncle wears them and they just have little tubes about a ø1/16" going into his ears and he has a ipod looking controller that he can adjust the sensitivity and what direction you want to listen too.

Did you foot the whole tab, or get coverage thru group health care or anything like that?

Costco, I forget the brand name but they are the kind that go behind the ear with the tube going into the ear, with the remote as mentioned above, pick them up this weds. I have good health ins, however no coverage for hearing aids

Workman's comp wont help at all unless I have to be retrained to enter a different work occupation....guess I dont have to hear very well to be a stupidvisor where I work now

Hence using the rest of our snowmobile reserve for hearing aids instead of traveling to Jackson hole or McCall Oh well theirs always next year :beer:

I just got a set of the Blue Tooth compatible hearing aids myself. It is great to be able to hear things that I haven't heard for years. Mine were covered 100% by WCB for noise induced hearing loss under an Industrial claim. I had to buy the TV adaptor myself but when I turn it on it shuts off the mikes in the hearing aids and they become a wireless headset. They were about 2 grand a side. They are also compatable to a cell phone or an MP3 with blue tooth. Also has a remote to adjust sound up or down.

Wow, I had no idea they were this kind of money, makes me feel better about what I pay for glasses and contacts...

Yuppers about 1500 a side thru Costco for every thing, really didn't go up in price since 05 just 3 times the instrument. sounds like the same set up I will have . Dino

OK now that I have these hearing aids all I can say is WOW I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WERE SO MANY NOISES OUT THERE. Great to sorta hear again, I would highly recommend these to anyone suffering from hearing loss. Great fit...dont even know I have them in my ear...old style in the ear aids hurt after 5 hours or so. Very happy with them ... :d Dino

It is amazing what you can here. I have not heard my bare feet on the carpet for years and now that I have my hearing aids there are a lot of new noises that I have forgotten that existed. They are a wonderfull piece of equipment. Mine are an OTICON's.

Anyone on here have cochlear implants? My daughter received bilateral CI's one year ago and is showing remarkable improvements daily. She had phonak hearing aids for about 8 months, I believe we paid $1300 and the government kicked in the other 66%.
