:rant:Heard a guy in Ontario on the radio today say that he phoned BRP about cross border pricing, they basically said if you don't like the price too bad BUT if you buy in the States, BRP will not honor their 3 year warranty(talking about quads).
This same guy said that he went to New York and was shown a letter sent by Polaris to one of their dealers that says they are not to sell new machines to Canadian cross border shoppers.
Funny that the manufacturers spend a little money on programs like 'Go Snowmobiling' to get us sledders to do their marketing for them by taking non riders out, but still expect us to pay 3 grand more for a sled because we live up here.:realmad:

I just got off the phone with Peter from BRP. I asked him the two questions that everyone asks:

Can i buy a new ski-doo or Can-am from the states and bring up here:

His answer, they do not allow cross border purchasing to protect the Canadian dealers. He said that if for some reason you did buy a new one, you would essentially be punished with loss of your warranty. He also said that the dealer can be punished as well but didnt get into specifics.

The question i really called about was used machines:

He said as long as the machine is used, the warranty IS transferable! So if you buy a can-am machine or even a ski-doo down there, whethers it's the factory warranty or the BEST extended warranty, it will be valid up here.

I asked for some legal documentation on this but he said that they do not have anything officially published.

Hope this helps.

Therefore:

What I understand is, get your US buddy to by a new sled, and have him sell it to you for the price he paid...

Any guys in the states looking for Canadian buddies?

Yup,

that is possible for sure.

I wish i knew someone in the states because Ron forced me to ride his Renegade and now i want one:D

EDIT: You would need him to submit the warranty information to BRP and then transfer it at a later date to yourself.

There was a guy on 630 ched radio this morning in Edmonton that just released a book about purchasing automobiles in the USA. He said the maunfacturers are making it difficult to purchase a new vehicle out of the USA so most people are moving to short term leased vehicles.
For any vehicle (truck, trailer, boat, quad, sled etc) that has been modified you will be asked to have supporting documentation for the parts and the install. According t this guy it must have been installed by a business.
He said bringing a used vehicle up from the USA is really easy so long as you know what is expected and are prepared. Also the certification from Can Tire can be a problem if anything costly turn up.

I just bought a used sled 3 wks ago here in Montana:D, still havent brought it back yet, since I'm going to college here in the states. Figure I could sell it up in AB and make $2500.
I'm thinking I may buy another sled before Christmas too... Let me know about buying sleds down here, I may be interested in something...

I was in Washington State in July at a Polaris dealer and he had a letter from
tha Wash Gov not to sell outside of the State. He also said if I bought a sled to bring back to Canada,Polaris will not honor the Warranty.

I just purchased a 2008 Griz 700 from Montana and the dealership had no probs. They even handled all the paperwork for the importing, the only thing is that the warranty is not honored in Canada but they said we could work something out like they ship me the parts and I do labor or I can bring it down there for waranty claims(only 2 hours away)

Only a few years ago the big three truck manufacturers had to take the same protectionist action to keep diesel pickups in Canada. They where heading south by the truckload.
