I would imagine the adrenaline would be pumping pretty heavy in a situation like that.
Are they in the same holster or what? Pretty easy to tell the difference Id imagine. But oh well, sounds like he had it coming.
Im just going by the thread though, I didnt watch the story.

Ive been on two police ranges with friends. I personally watched them pull their sidearms out and shoot without racking the slides. And when I’ve asked to see their new guns, they’ve dropped the mag and cleared the live round out of the breech before showing me their pistols. That’s about as hardcore a fact as you can get.

She had to have panicked, or maybe she’d spent most of her time on a desk and just recently went back to the street. Most cops carry their taser differently than the firearms. If you look at the body cam footage of that shooting, you can see the taser of the other cop. It looks like it’s facing forward on his left hip, so not only would he be reaching to the other side of his body, but he’d have to cross draw it. CPS does that in calgary and the RCMP does either that or carry the taser in a thigh carry holster to differentiate, and everywhere the taser is a bright yellow colour. She flat out fu**ed up

You are right 100%. Just talked to my RCMP buddy a couple minutes ago. I asked him about it> Here is his response and I would screenshot it if I could post pics on this site. I asked him what RCMP protocols are:
"Fu**ing idiots! Yes you are required to have one chambered at all times when on duty. There is rarely enough time to draw, chamber a round, (which takes 2 hands) and then get on target. So no she wouldn't have chambered a round. I've disciplined officers who were found with an empty chamber. Terrible situation for her. We were trained to either carry your taser on your non gun side or on a leg holster to prevent that from happening. I don't know how she was carrying her taser? Officers learn by muscle memory to draw automatically. I'd draw and unload and load every day. That way you can do it without thinking. I think she just went back to her muscle memory as she keyed her vision on the suspect and accidentally drew on him? The sad part is they try and make it racist. Plus, don't resist and you won't get shot. "
Scott is a good buddy and I trust what he tells me. He was transferred out as detachment chief in Mayerthorpe 2 weeks before that fatal shooting of 4 officers in 2005. He wishes he would have been there but I'm glad he wasn't.

The police chief said they are required to have their sidearm on their dominant hand side and the taser on the other side to help prevent confusion.. If you watch and listen to the body cam video, you can tell she just plain screwed up...definitely wasn't intentional, not a chance.
Concerning the Perp...all of the MSM are showing pictures of him with a toddler on his knee. One news report said he was just getting back in his car when he was shot...you know...just casually getting back into has car after being pulled over for 'Driving While Black' with an illegally placed air freshener hanging from his rear-view mirror. No mention of the out of date plates, his outstanding warrant and his trying to flee from the police while they were trying to handcuff him.
Here is some video the perp posted to social media...looks like a fine upstanding young man.

Well i researched it and in the US they do for sure.
In Canada there are variants, some RCMP carry no firearms. I guess it would depend on their qualifications. The ones that carry are trained to chamber the round and this is more typical in a large city setting.
There has been accidental firing of the sidearm in Canada where the officer is injured and RCMP equipment is damage, it took a while to find info on this for Canada. US info was easy find.
So conclusion in US, yes they do. In Canada depending on department policy, region and so on, they do.
I did have a hard time finding info on this for Canada and RCMP related info., makes me wonder whats the secret while the US info is so clear and easy to find.

I'm just telling you what a staff sargeant from an Alberta detachment told me. Not sure what other regions do. He did say like I mentioned "while on duty" so when off duty or possible doing administrative work they don't? He disciplined officers that didn't follow this protocol so I'm thinking its a hard fast rule in the force.

It’s not a secret, they probably think rightly that no one cares or has a problem with it. All cops that work in the public including the military police carry with a round chambered. It’s stupidity to do otherwise.
