Any E mountain bike owners here?

Thinking about getting a full suspension e mountain bike. Got out quite a bit last year and had a blast. Found that you spend most of your time grunting your way up a trail and then back down in 1/10th the time. Heard a guy gets just as much or more exercise with the ebikes......you can just get more runs in.

Anyone with real world experience?

Ran into an elderly couple that were riding a couple high end ones last year and they are very cool, don’t know a lot about them but I would like too get one.The people I was talking too paid like 12000 for 2 of them so I do know they get pricey!

Was looking at a RAD bike for bow hunting, supposed to have good range with 2 batteries.
Would like to ear about these, not sure if they make a full suspension.
Maybe $3200 with lots of accessories and second battery.

Yep, they are a riot. I personally do not own one yet but The one I had for a demo was alot of fun, but the price tag on that bike was 9500.

I've been mountain biking for 30+ years, 20 in BC mountains. The purist in me tends to balk a bit at "cheating" with a battery assisted bike. But in reality I'm sure it's a tremendous benefit for getting up hills efficiently and covering a lot more ground in a day.

When we were on the Kettle Valley Rail (KVR) line last summer there were lots of them. Talked to peeps about them and they "just loved them" as they could actually go places, get a decent amount of exercise, and see a lot more than they did with the pedal bikes. Pricey, yes but what isn't these days.............look at the price of a plucking 2x4!!

On a side note, on the Kelowna side of the KVR, e-bikes are not allowed. I found that concerning and apparently the reason is because people are riding them too fast creating dangerous situations for the walking crowd.

That's the thing. Cheapest it seems to get into a half decent one is around 7k. Alot of money for a bicycle.

That was my first thought, but I guess even the purists are starting to make the switch. Just get more miles in for the same amount of exercise

Got one this summer. Didn’t ride as much as I wanted due to crazy rain this summer up at work.

On cross country trails you get as much or more exercise and cover 3x the distance. Makes it way more fun, see way more trail

At Thornhill in Terrace I was doing downhill laps as fast as the chicks with Tacoma’s (they were faster on the downhill, I still suck)
You still have to do all the pedalling, it just assists. No power to the crank when you stop pedalling

It was great, went up stuff that I would be walking and pushing with my regular bike

I have one (for my wife) they are pretty cool, it has the Bosch motor on it. When we bought it 2 years ago it seemed to be the most refined of all the drives
The range is more then anybody I know would use in one day.

Its like someone giving you a little extra push on the peddles.

You defiantly feel the weight, when I go out with my son I take my manual XC MTB over the E-MTB, more playful and fun.

Yes you get the same exercise, you just go farther and get there quicker.

So sounds like I should keep my full suspension for a while if I do get one. Was planning on offsetting the cost of the ebikes by selling my other ones. I was curious if there were times when a guy would want to ride the anolog one

The one I rode, had power levels and a you could turn off the electric side of the bike.

Riderz is a Rocky Mountain dealer, I do want one but need to do more research on them cause they do have cheaper models. The lighter they are the more expensive the get.
My neighbor has a regular peddle bike and it was 10g!!!!!

Its insane what you can spend on bikes. I'm actually surprised how close in price the ebikes are.

Another thing a guy has to take into account is once the bike is paid for, that's it. No insurance, registration, gas, and minimal repairs. So actually not that expensive of a hobby

Im currently conducing a consulting job for flood at Revolution Cycle in Edmonton they had a while back and they have plenty of different stock of both regular and e-bikes. 2 floors of bikes and accessories. There pricy though.

When you meet E-bikers on the trail...ask them if they also cheat on their taxes. I’ve done this to few people I know in town...the look on their face was priceless.

I’ll be joining the cheaters club soon...lol.

Absolutely. I was surprised what I could do on one. Top gear just ripping in the ditch along the highway, lots of fun, the effort and resistance was still, there your just doing it alot faster!

When my kids get older I may need a ebike to keep up with them anyway lol.

We bought one for the wife from Revolution it was a Specialized Vado.
It is great, not quite the workout as a regular pedal but for her it works. It was expensive but she gets $2000 a year from a wellness account from work which helped. I had the thing going 35kmh going uphill. Some even go faster.

I have 2, a Norco Big foot fat bike that I put a Bafang mid drive kit on for winter riding and a 2021 Trek Rail.
I've been involved with mountain biking since they first came out, Have raced at the pro Downhill level and ebikes are hands down the most fun bike out there. All the fun and none of the suffering. If you want to suffer, turn the juice down.
Stick with Name brands, Rocky, Specialized, Norco, Trek etc.
I would not buy used as you won't know how the battery was treated with the previous owner and this is key. Don't over charge, under charge leave out in the cold etc.
