Did anyone watch the race yesterday or see some of the highlights? I still can't wrap my head around how Grosjean was able to walk away from that. I've read that the impact was 53gs and he was in the fire for 27 seconds. 4 or 5 years ago I'd say there would have been nothing left of him.

I don't watch F1, but that's one heck of crash to walk away from.

I'm just getting back in to it. Watched Drive to Survive in netflix and kind of got me watching again.

Watching the clip in real time doesn’t do it justice. He doesn’t look like he’s going as fast as he really is. Crazy how he walked out.

Very lucky guy. He claims the safety device above his head called the "Halo" saved his life. Good to see that FI, IndyCar and Nascar do a great job of keeping our favorite drivers safe in the most horrific crashes.

HALO and the cockpit crash structure definitely saved his life along with the fact that it was on corner 2 and had the marshals and medical car on scene within 10 seconds. Without the HALO his head would have taken the brunt of the Armco and he would have died for sure. The FIA also just mandated 20 second fireproof racing suits this season which helped him for sure. The gloves are still 10 second which is likely why he suffered some burns on his hands.

With the fire this one was insane to see. Only one close in recent times (other than Jules Bianchi’s death) in my opinion was Robert Kubica in Montreal. I was at that race and you could hear a pin drop in the stands when it happened, everyone was sure he was dead. Higher rate of impact and G Force than Romain but no fire.
