Propane belly tank

Looking for a propane belly tank for my enclosed. anyone got one? know a place to get them? I figure I jacknife my trailer too much when parking etc... to put bottles up there... any other options?

Hey bud. Not sure what size your looking for but check In with some of the bus company’s have them lying around from Lp conversions. Might get one for free. I tossed one a year ago. I’ve also seen guys use a 100LB bottle laying on its side. God that sounds cowboy.

Mutual propane will have new ones. But pricy. They will also have all the parts for hooking it up. And certify it all.

I found one from a old vehicle and had it blasted and painted. You need to find horizontal vapour tank not a liquid tank. Or switch the liquid value assembly with the dip tube to a vapour valve with out a dip tube. 100 pound tank sideways wouldn’t be great as it will suck liquid lpg when the tank is full.

Still in the process of getting mine mounted on my trailer build project that has been progressing slowly over the last 5 years. Lol.

I should do up a build thread some day.

Mutual is who I used for our propane bus. They were quick and had parts in stock as well.

the trailer I purchased had the underbelly mounted tank on it already, I don't know if it was ever certified or not, I'm just going to hope that when it needs filled one of the local shops will fill it up for me.

It's not much bigger than a 30 pound tank and is mounted on the frame, they put a shut off valve on it, so that if its empty you can undo the hose for the heater and screw it onto a regular propane bottle.

Never used the trailer for sledding as of yet, but hoping too soon.

Mutual told me that since the trailer is not a vehicle with a motor it doesn’t need the annual or regular certification. And once it’s mounted to the trailer they were not concerned and would consider it like it’s been there since new. The said they would fill mine no issue.

But I think because they can’t weigh the tank, they fill it by litres and it needs a gauge to read the volume so it doesn’t get overfilled.

Mine's got a spit valve on it, just like my old truck did, I've never filled it but depending on the age, it may also have what we used to call "auto shut off" where once it hits 80% full the valve closes and won't allow anymore propane into the cylinder

Likely cheaper to extend your A frame and just add two 30lbs bottles. Jackknifing won’t be an issue.

This is what I did on my cargo west 26’ enclosed. Took the 30lb off and had a welder fab up a nice aluminum holder for a 100 lb tank. Worked great.

Isn't there an auto wrecker somewhere in Alberta that deals with older retired motorhomes? They would have used tanks. I bought mine off KIJIJI about 5 years ago for about $150. It takes about 75 litres to fill from empty. Think its like 14" x 42". Mounted it just in front of the forward axle. A 20lb tank takes 17 litres to fill from empty.

If its just for heat get one of those small diesel heaters ?? Digit 9 did a video on his, looks pretty sweet. Ill see if I can figure out a link.

Here’s a link to the one he used right from his youtube video. Says he leaves it on for 2 weeks at a time. Also has some other sweet mods, like solar for keeping batteries up, and a fan set up to circulate air and dry stuff faster. Check him out, digit9 on youtube. :beer:

From the sounds of it, would be a fork of alot cheaper than a propane set up too. You could buy 2 of these and still be way ahead.
