Hotshot 1 ton pickup runs around $140/hr or $1.40/km. Judging from the calls I just made things haven't changed much. The local rental guy here charges $150/hr. That's a f450 with whatever is on the trailer. As you know having trucks and equipment plus having to pay someone to drive it that crap can't move for free. Guys best bet would be to rent a trailer and get it himself.

That's way overpriced. Tri-drive 40 ton winch and scissor neck is going for $175/hr here as of a couple months ago.

brutal. hard to believe anyone in GP is running a tri/tri for that rate. some guys in the city are running for even less than that.

Not my trucks. No point in taking a loss just to do a job.

Everyone complains about trucking costs. Go buy one and then explain to the rest of us how cheap you can run, plus compete with the immigrant duo that will work for next to nothing.

recently there's been a few southern companies bidding and landing jobs up here for cheap, undercutting the locals. then they call for a local truck and sputter when you tell them the rates. I'll go as low as 185 for a tandem/tri, these guys are throwing around rates of 150...well then call your buddy down south and get him up here for that.

some outfits are getting desperate I think. taking jobs at a loss just to keep the bank happy by turning in invoices. tick tock...

But yet the last couple sales have been going high. Cant over pay for rigging then work it for a loss.

yeah, I was a bit surprised. RB made a pretty good offer to my buddy Marv, he's currently shipping everything to GP for the next sale. complete dispersal of MSS. sad to see.

MSS isn't the only one, but when there isn't any rigs to move there isn't much demand for bed trucks. I'm actually looking for a winch tractor and scissor neck

Price was insane on trailers. Apparently my BWS 25 ton tag has went up in value a chitton since I bought it almost 3 years ago. There was a used one that went for more then new, I don't get it. If it's going down south why not go buy new?

No idea how anyone could think working at a loss is a good idea. I could see in the off season working at cost just to keep things moving and part of the year you make decent money to make up for it. I'd rather go broke sitting at home not wearing out my chit, then work it for a loss, fawk that. Tons of new Canadians doing the undercutting running dump trucks here, thankfully many customers don't fall for it. I've seen as low as $60/hr for tandem dump, but in the end they cost the same or more then a $85/hr truck.

Ritchies has done an amazing job creating their own markets. Now they have their financing division and they use it as a big time selling tool. They get a guy approved for a high dollar at the auction but also at a high interest rate. The dude who cant get money at a regular bank can now get a bunch of cash through Ritchies financial but can only use it at the auction so they spend big. Ritchies backs the financiers to a degree with a promise to resell item if loan is defaulted to help cover costs. I have not bought anything at Ritchies for a couple of years now, but I get 2 calls from their financial people everytime I register to bid, usually within a couple of days. Good marketing on their part.

$85.00 per hour dump truck? Really? Around here you cant get one for under $110 for a tandem body job. $60.00? Heck some drivers make that in our industry. $45.00 an hour is pretty much the norm for an average to below average log truck driver.

You can use their financing to buy elsewhere, at least I did about 3 years ago. I financed trailer bought there, and hoe bought privately. My brother even bought a truck at michener that ritchie's financed. Rate wasn't bad, 7% for 4 years especially on used stuff and 0% down. It is totally like a dealership though in that approvals are so much easier then directly to a bank. They call all the time, even though i've told them to stop as I will not be financing equipment again, if I need something it will be cash, and their auctions are too expensive to buy from most of the time anyway.

I just find it mind boggling people still will sign their name to paying that much. A 7 year old trailer like $5k more then new when there is some available at dealers with a simply Kijiji search? Just stupid. It could need $5k worth of work. I paid $20k for my trailer, same one just in better shape was $37k at last auction, and mine was 3 years newer when I bought it. I mean I got a good deal on it, but the trailer is only about $42k brand new. I guess it's better then paying $46k for a 2013.

Remember a lot of the time this is hear say and other companies starting rumours .
I work on the supervision end of all this type thing and a lot of bull crap being spread .
But in saying that it does happen from time to time for small little projects that a company is working out of a parking lot Instead of yard and big shops and needing safety policies and staff .

Yea that is the standard rate I pay, I charge out $90. Anything higher and get a lot of push back for rate being too high. Depending who it is drivers here make $22-$25. With fuel prices right now $85 is ok but not getting rich. It's not enough for me to bother running mine, let it move my equipment and the odd load, otherwise let it sit.

If you had brakes you would have to increase your rates.
