seeing how they want to restrict me going to my place in radium

seriously. to all those about to flame me, hear me out. Calgary will be deferring property tax payment in response to hardship caused by Covid 19. The city of Calgary is not responsible for the hardship, yet they are doing something to help.

If RDEK is so passionate about this suggestion, put some skin in the game. Pay back my property tax that you have/will take from me for the months you want me to stay away.

seems fair.

I, for one, have had enough Alberta bashing from some BC'ers.

PS, BC itself has more Covid cases and deaths than Alberta or Saskatchewan, yet they see the east as the threat.

I don't think they are asking you not to ever come but just give it a break for a few weeks.

a "few weeks" is going to be an understatement, I'm hearing of companies with contingency plans into July/August if necessary to get through this....... I've been working from home for 4 weeks now and anticipate I will be doing the same until June

More deaths yes, by 13. More cases no, 1,266 BC vs 1,373 AB. BC also has 300 more recovered cases.

This isnt an us vs them, a she did it, he did it type of thing.

No one person is being punished by self quarantine, it is a group thing. If you think your above everyone else, expect to be treated differently.

Who fawking cares which province has the most deaths or cases, lets just do our best to get through this sh*t.

so Seeing how the numbers are virtually the same, And the risk of spread by B.C. and out of province residents Is virtually the same, then the RDEK should also Lobby to Stop all Bc resident travel going into the region, no?

wow our little taste of communism is interesting, restrictive travel, basic supply shortages, 25% unemployment. Hope this crap doesn’t go on for too much longer.

IMO it's stupid for anyone to be doing a lot of traveling back and forth if it's not necessary. However if you own property in both B.C and Alberta I see nothing wrong with picking one to stay at. The only exception would be if the vacation home is in a really small place with very limited medical resources as people going to them could easily overload them.

self quarantine, it doesnt just apply to provinces, it applies to you staying home, by that they mean home, your house.

But that isn’t the point, or jist, of the article, or what the RDEK is lobbying for. They specifically want to shut down interprovincial travel. They called it out.

Holy fawk, why is it that everything turns into an Alberta vs BC thing? The regional district directors are looking out for the residents. We don't have an option to go back home if the hospital is full. This is our home, just because you own property doesn't mean you're a resident.
Again and again I hear some Albertans scream I own property, I spend money I am so fawking important without me you would have nothing....
All provinces are asking residents to stay home, all mayor's, all health care professionals saying the same.

Wonder how many Invermere valley and East Kootenay residents are driving into Calgary and Lethbridge for their Costco and walmart runs. And also, if they need acute care, guess which big city hospitals they'll be going to. Stars flies into BC constantly. It goes both ways.

Not quite true. All EK cancer patients go to Kelowna as well as other medical patients go to Cranbrook, Trail, or kelowna

I won't get into a pissing contest here but I can see the highway from house and in the last 10 years the traffic coming in this area on any warm weekend is beyond crazy. The winter is not as bad as the summer. The joke is a local can never make a left hand turn onto the highway on any weekend in the summer.

What is the issue with me traveling to my cabin and staying to myself there versu staying at my home and staying to myself here. I just got home from a 2 week stay to get things organized with our business and personal finances. I’m planning on heading back to my cabin for the long haul in a few weeks. Doesn’t make me feel I’m above anyone. Just feel I have the right to go to either of my residences. If I had to rent or hotel I wouldn’t be going. I think this is fawking stupid.

OP had it right. RDEK is pushing an agenda. Keep non-locals out. Pander to the "pissed off at all things Albertan" crowd.

Step up RDEK. give tax relief, or at a minimum, defer tax payments for non resident property if you want to pick sides in this.

try to regain some credibility in the "we're all in this together" bullS####.
