Concerning all the naysayers condemning sledding during this Covid-19 outbreak..."Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones"

I can almost guarantee that 'You' people condemning other people for going sledding could also be condemned by a section of society that would find some wrongdoing in your own daily activities or actions. Are all of the 'holier than thou' actually doing the bare minimum to survive?...IE shopping for groceries or receiving treatment for a life threatening illness. If you are doing anything other than shopping for groceries or receiving treatment for a life threatening illness...well, you are being reckless and selfish in some peoples eyes.

Here is an example...I have a friend from Calgary who has been very critical of some peoples actions and a lot of his criticism is valid. In particular, one item was concerning some people we know who were returning from overseas trips and going into full party/socializing mode upon their return to Fernie. I would also agree with his criticism in this particular issue

Problem is, I mentioned to him that a friend of his was sending out emails with advice about protecting from Covid-19 and one piece of advice was that big city dwellers should not be heading to small resort areas like Fernie, as it has the potential to create an overburden on our small towns medical facilities. My friend chose to ignore that advice and spend his time at his second home in Fernie. Criticizing some people all the while ignoring other peoples advice. That's his choice to make...not mine.

I'm pretty sure all of the current group of sled condemners could also be condemned by more extreme members of society.

PS: I made it back from two days of local riding and did not require any SAR or medical care...I used disposable gloves at the local fuel depot, brought food from home, rode in my truck by myself, used sani-wipes on my truck door handles, keys and steering wheel, had a couple of beers with the guys (6 feet apart) at the end of the day and all is good...I also saw a couple of families out enjoying themselves and that was nice to see.

Had friend return from Sweden last week and is doing the self isolation thing in his trailer in the driveway while his family carries on. Though on him but they know the risks. Better safe than sorry.

I'm not a fan of this anti social thing but I do have a child with a weeken ammun system that could possibly cause a death so yes we are cautious. Live 20km from town so distancing isn't a problem, we farm so food not that big of a deal but I still go to town 2 times a week for supplies, ie milk and beer lol but I still take precautions. 6ft distance blah blah. Keep it real, beat the curve. Next month things will be back to normal

What will be the effect of this policy? My guess is, people will try to get infected so they can recover and go back to work.

Maybe, but Germany has much better EI than we do, so there may be less people worried about working. In Germany its 60% of regular wage or 67% if you have kids. Canada is 55% to a max of $573 per week. I know for many including myself EI covers less than 25% of normal earnings. I see something like this becoming a much bigger issue in Canada if it was announced. I also see it being an issue in Canada of people going to work sick and hiding it because they have to to make ends meat.

So didn't Justin's wife head to their cottage in Quebec after her quarantine? Is this not an example we should follow?

It amazes me that even a dog listens better than humans and understands “sit” and “stay” better.

I guess some would enjoy a two week lock down due to non compliance of unnecessary travel.

Im doing my part to avoid this so I can stay employed as long as I can.

So you are still going to work? Are you a REAL essential worker? Why are you going to work if its not a critical service? My wife and I are both self employed and have voluntarily removed ourselves from the work force for a least a couple of weeks...sounds like your judging me but I could very well be doing more than you for reducing the spread of Covoid-19.

Haha you will never teach them sit or stay- they can not even differentiate between essential an non essential.
They see the promotion of recreational activities over the next 2-4 months in the same light as having to buy food - hell it's even more important.......good luck Matt!
Until they loose a family member or fried they will never get it.
Hell they approve of the sled rally in Sask that will likely atoll to at least two fatalities with more in intensive care and you want sit and stay......never.

Cut her some slack, clearly she makes poor decisions, look at her husband choice andddddddd........ can you blame her for trying to isolate from him?

Hey...would you like to compare the daily activities between our families for the last two weeks? Betcha my family would win in the competition to see who was least likely to spread Covid-19.

Yup...spending a couple days riding locally has put my entire community at risk, but nothing you have done has contributed to the possible spread of Covid-19. Get off your high horse. I'm sure you've done lots of things in the last couple of weeks that wouldn't be classified as absolutely essential if you were to use someone else's standards. Get off your high horse.

Yes my services are essential, deemed by the Government.
I am required to be at work and adjust my habits to match the recommendations, and make it work as a team.

Our group at work understands that all it take is one person with covid on site to send people home for two weeks. Even symptoms of it will send a person home for 10 days. IDK what handouts the govt is giving, no excuse to fall back on that.

All of us at work take this seriously,
I know more of my coworkers health issues now, more people are open with telling others their kids and other family members problems, so I will do my part to help those.

And people wonder why we loose riding areas to closures.

So I noticed in one of your other posts that you are a mechanic and apparently the government deems that an essential service. The work that both my wife and I do as self employed people is also deemed to be an essential service, yet we have chosen to isolate from our customers for at least two weeks and are going to take a financial hit as we do not qualify for EI.

Why are you not staying at home? The world will not end if you don't go in to work for a few weeks. Looks like I'm ahead of you, if were keeping score on who is doing the most to stop the spread of Covid-19. You go to work exposing yourself to multiples of people...I stay home all week and then go sledding locally for a couple of days and I'm the one to be shamed? Give me a break...there are a lot of other things you should be concerned about.

Tailgaters and hypocrites are the worst...

I don't think the majority of people are worried about the people who go to work and are careful, or even the odd non essential thing. Let's be honest, even going to the grocery store every week isn't essential, you don't NEED fresh stuff you could easily go once a month or less. Ya if you're a dumba$$ out drinking with people, or something like that you should be shamed.

I'm still working, and will be as long as people want work done. It's either running equipment or working outside not anywhere close to others so no risk at all. I do think some people have the mentally "oh I can't work, so you shouldn't either". That's BS. If you're essential, or you can go to work without posing any risk, you do it.

I did however stop at 7-11 on my way home today for a slurpee, so flame away :p
