ICE vehicles are getting more expensive every year while electric vehicles are getting cheaper every year. How long can that trend continue?

No question electric vehicles are the future, the data shows it’s not an overnight switch like some want to believe. It’ has been 15+ years for hybrids and they’’ve hardly caught on.

They'll change their tune when they get a parking lot full of those things charging for free.

It's so cheap to charge an EV that you don't need to offer free charging. It's a perk right now for early adopters. Getting a cheeseburger combo at wendy's is a similar price to charging a car up for 400km of real world driving.

Already is sky high except that the NDP made the 6.8 cent/kw cap so they’ve been disguising the costs... which now the UCP have removed so look like the bad guys. Hopefully everyone is locked into a fixed contract for a long time!

Also that article is misleading, electrical car sales are decreasing since the government slashed their subsidies in June.People don’t want electric cars without government support yet SUV sales keep breaking records.

This is one of my big problems with the carbon tax instead of taxing us on carbon why not make electricity cheaper? We have friends that just bought a small house with electric heat and on equal payments they're paying $300 a month for electricity in north central BC. They are looking at adding a woodstove or pellet stove to reduce heating costs.

I can go buy an ice car that gets me around for 1000$.

maybe one day I'll be able to pick up a used tesla for that. battery will probably be no good by then though?

We don’t have anything remotely close to the amount of electricity required or the infrastructure. We would need another 1.5 site C dams immediately plus related infrastructure plus upgrades in every home and business. AINT GONNA HAPPEN

Now if you pulled up to that hotel in the middle of winter and plugged in the block heater of a big diesel truck would you expect to pay for that power? Or should it be free?

How about the continental breakfast, should you pay for it just because someone else chooses not to eat it?

Honestly it's part of doing business if that's the type of clientele that business wants to attract. If you can't afford to pay for it as a business owner but your competition can then that's too bad. That's how competition works. As a customer if you don't like that they provide free electricity to electric cars then feel free to spend your money elsewhere, that is your choice.

There’s a big difference between the 750 watt block heater in your truck and the 100 amp service required to charge your EV in a reasonable time. Most hotels have outside plugs on timers to reduce costs, so your diesel truck will probably be drawing power only half of the time it’s plugged in.
This entitled attitude of EV owners that their car purchase should be subsidized by taxpayers and their charging should be provided free by business owners is asinine. Imagine being a business owner, watching someone drive up, plug in their $90k Tesla, walk around your store browsing for 45 minutes, then walk out, unplug their car and drive away, having bought nothing. That’s the problem with something that’s free. There’s gonna be unlimited demand. Your business won’t survive long shouldering the cost of providing free electricity to anyone that wants it.
A smart business owner would install a bunch of fake chargers that would do nothing except run an indicator light, and just inside the door have bogus coupons for free mani-pedi sessions and man-bun tutorials.

Your business pays for the electricity. You might ask yourself why would any business owner be interested in this? Does Tesla upgrade the electrical service in the building if necessary to feed the charging stations? Or the infrastructure out on and feeding the power poles? What if someone doesn’t drive a Tesla but another brand instead. Do they get to use it or does the business have to install a different station for other makes? This ridiculousness is building.

Same with sicamous, we were supposed to get a kick back on power used, cause we have no choices like the rest of b c, and they are not putting infrastructure in either

Agreed, it's a pipe dream

I don't have room in either of my boxes for 20-30 amps

Because we have base boards ect for heat, even tho a wood stove is used non stop

Tesla currently is having charging station put across Canada every 300 Kms, regardless of where that lands. Volkswagon is also starting to do this. Some Petro Canada stations now offer EV charging stations as well. Now that the Wolfmac Transmission Line is done from Wabamun to Suncor the bi product waste that they burn in the kokers that generates roughly 6.2MW and they only use 2, excess power will be sent to the infrastructure around Wabamun and out from there. Smart that Suncor is selling this power however it works, the line cost was roughly 1.8B.

No, but the amount of energy these destination chargers are using isn't as much as you think. Model 3 only charges at 10kw so with a 75kwh battery you are looking at about 8 hours to charge to full from empty and a cost of 10-13 dollars (guessing hotels are paying less for electricity than the average joe residential price). The destination chargers can be set up as a normal Tesla connector or a J1772 adapter that is more universal. There are adapters so it's usually not an issue. A destination charger is meant for when you are going to stay somewhere for a decent period of time. To be travelling and go to a destination charger and then hang out in a parking lot waiting 7 hours is just not convenient at all. When travelling and needing faster charging you'll almost always be using DC fast chargers. The new V3 superchargers can do 20% to 90% in 25minutes. A destination charger would take 5 and a half hours.

I've thought about getting a volt or bolt as I can get cheap deals from work on them

Just not sure on the extra power, as in winter we get the 2nd tier charges alot, and without wood heat would be crazy

First winter we only had a few cords of wood, when Feb - March hit, 1100 for 2 months of power was a eye opener
