Recently placed an online order with Royal Distributing.
At checkout the only option for shipping is Purolator, shipping charges were $27.70. (so much for "free" shipping).
My parts arrived on Canada Post, freight charges were $19.82.
When I contacted Royal about the overcharge for shipping I was told Quote:I verified your order confirmation and the quote for shipping was indeed $27.70 when you confirmed your order. Apparently they have found a way to make a few extra bucks on each order.
They pledged to look into it on Monday and get back to me if there was an error, today is Wednesday and no response. Not even to my reply yesterday.
Very disappointed in this experience with Royal as I have dealt with them many times over the years trouble free.

Their site says free shipping over $39. Why would you pay shipping in the first place, it seems when shipping showed up on the order that would have been the time to contact them?

Here was their response when I contacted them initially about their " free" shipping.
Our free shipping policy is subject to rural locations that deviate from our courier's main shipping routes. Unfortunately Cranbrook falls within this. We still cover the majority of the cost for you

Based on this statement (We still cover the majority of the cost for you) I call Bull**** as I was still overcharged almost 8 dollars.

You should remind them that cranbrook is on hwy 3, one of 3 main arteries that connect Canada to the Pacific Ocean. Hardly a rural out of the way city.

I’m 20min north of hwy 3 and there are some items on amazon I can’t even get shipped period. Wtf??

Shipping and extended warranties, Always have been a money maker.
but shipping fees are still probably worth the time and effort for you to go to a store and get it some times when it makes sense.

I was going to do an online order from them about a month ago and the system wanted to charge me shipping. Called them and got the "outside major areas spiel" but when they manually entered my Postal Code, they told me that indeed I did qualify for free shipping. Completed the order over the phone and all was well. Seems to be there is a glitch in their online check out.

I will definitely be phoning in the next order if there ever is another one, just for that reason.

I'm dissapointed that we can't order their catalog anymore. I know it was probably a big expense but I really liked having one at work and one at home so that we could browse through it like a kid and the old Sears Christmas catalog. I'm not a big fan of their online catalog. Its pretty clunky.

I received my 2020 Winter catalog in the mail last Thursday. I never ordered it, but I've ordered stuff from them in the past, so perhaps I'm on a mailing list? FWIW, I've only ordered from them once online and the order was a bit screwed up. So now I only order over the phone, and have had good success for years.

I love the paper catalogue too, exactly like the sears wish book!

The latest response from Royal is ( Since our new website launched earlier this year, we are continually evaluating data, as well as customer input, and making changes and correcting glitches as they arise. Although the shipping to rural zones may not be free, it is heavily subsidized. We are trying to make the changes as fair as possible to keep our products accessible to all Canadians.)
They are going to refund the freight charges I paid so that is a good outcome for me.
Their claim about subsidizing shipping rings false with me as the amount I paid was still almost $8. over what regular freight should have been were I paying it all.
Lesson learned, always question freight charges.

It’s kinda messed up if you think about it. RD is primarily an online/phone in purchase outfit that ships its products to the consumer. Not near as much for in house purchase and pick up as they only have two stores. So you’d think they would try to cater more to the rural consumer.
