My experience with the Tesla Model 3

If we are being completely honest, there is 0 coolness factor with a Model 3. Other than acceleration, they are basically a Prius.

Curious what the charge schedule will be on that distance !
In Edmonton, currently -8 degrees , not really going to move from there today .

I used about 126 kWh to travel about 600km. Temps started at 1 degree with a crazy head wind and then steadily dropped as we went north. I stopped at every supercharger (cross iron, red deer, South Gate) just to figure out where they were and top up so I arrived with a decent charge level. If I left Lethbridge at 100% I would only stop to charge once in Red Deer next time I do this trip. Navigation on autopilot is pretty neat. Suggests lane changes and merged/exits off freeways.

With 500km range and 1 hour charging spaced 160km apart what purpose would a generator serve?
You guys were yacking about sitting in line for hrs on end going thru mountains so in a emergency like that a genny would come in handy.

Nothing out there touches their autopilot and large screen....that is for sure. You never mention the charge times at the supercharge stations and what percentage it charge it up. This is info people need.

I'm pretty sure these days a tesla gets a lot more kitty than a worn out old srt10... especially with the Revy girls

A different style of hunting. Instead of making a bunch of racket and seeing what comes in you can sneak up on pretty much anything :)

I’m not sure, I have free super charging for 6 months. If I used $0.10/kWh the price was $12.60.

Not too sure where you buy electricity for .10 kwh Enmax was charging me .06414 I switched to Atco on a contract for .03 kwh. Don't forget all the other charges, delivery, distribution, transmission, balancing pool, rate rider and local access.

I was trying to account for all those extras in my price but yes you are correct. Take your total electric bill divide by the kWh used for the month for your true cost per kWh.

It is currently $0.36 per minute charging above 60Kw or $0.18 per minute charging at our below 60Kw. By my math, the rate to charge in Alberta currently works out to about $0.27 per kwh.

I thought they were doing $0.20 kWh flat rate but you are right. A 75kwh battery will charge at the high rate for the first 60% and slowly taper down as it nears 100%. I expect supercharging to be slightly more expensive than home charging due to the convenience factor. Let’s just say my previous math was wrong. With a by the minute rate your best bang for the buck will be to charge to 80% as the last 20% is pretty slow. I’m headed back to Lethbridge today so I’ll pay more attention to the battery level that the charge starts to taper off. These rates also should allow them to double the current supercharging network by the end of 2019 as planned.

This is one reason why I’m interested in using solar to charge because when you sell 1 kWh to the grid you are being paid $0.03.
