Loud pipes on the pavement save lives, cans have 0 hp gains just weight loss and noise. I have loud pipes on 2 sleds both are race sleds with true pipes for hp gains. Yes my big turbo with a tunnel dump will make you cringe when it is out of the powder on it tail. I do have to agree a lot of the cans on the 2smokes are very annoying! JMO

Maybe i'm too old.

How many fellas remember what a nice set of trips or even twins at 8600rpm sounded like?

These single pipe loud cans are the rice rockets of the sled world...Loud, annoying, and most importantly they aren't helping us keep riding areas open.

Ya i know you're 22, got your first job and want a loud sled. But seriously, its not helping us.

Or at least wait until you're 50 yards away from the cabin. Honestly, nobody wants to hear your loud can. Because its loud, and it also sounds terrible.
Just rode a demo for 3 days with a stock can. Can honestly say I've never rode a complete stocker before. I actually really enjoyed how quiet it was. That being said, I won't argue with the sound of a set of twins up on bust

I like the nice sound of a crisp running engine as much as the next guy. I honestly do. My vintage 340 triple/triple blizzard will reinforce that. But some of you need to wake up and realize reality. If you believe noise isn't a determental factor in the closure of areas you have your head in the sand. You can see this first hand out East. I know...it's different out there
But is it? If you've ever been part of a club you would understand what we are up against. Landowners voluntarily give us permission to ride on private land. The non snowmobiling public do not, in general, appreciate the noise. Riding in these areas is a privledge, not a right. Into the future we need to do everything we can to maintain access. Braapping left, right, and center does not help our case.

I sound like a tree hugger, but I want access throughout my lifetime, ss well as that of my family. It only takes one bad apple to ruin it for everyone. Use your thumb wisely please.

You obviously haven't been involved in any land use meetings. I spent 20 years at it. The number one complaint is, and has always has been, loud obnoxious sledders. It comes up long before Caribou are ever mentioned. It makes all other issues just that much harder to fight.

Edit: It's also uninformed sledders like you that made me quit the fight. I'll argue with government and leaf lickers till hell freezes over, but having to argue with bitchy whiny sledders I'm supposedly fighting for put an end to it.
You can speak all you want. I’m still in the fight and don’t plan on quitting. I fight every year for my club and our yearly permit to ride in the “hub of caribou country” so suck it when you say I’m uninformed.

Boy, this escalated quickly :)

I prefer to be as quiet as I can as I generally find that extended exposure to noise detracts from my enjoyment whether I am participating in something (sledding or just driving a vehicle) or just sitting outside trying to enjoy the weather. I still have the stock muffler on my sled for this reason. As to the extra weight, I figure I pack way more that 20 pounds of snow in my track so really don't see that whatever I might gain by shedding 20 pounds would make me enjoy my day out any more. As to my vehicles, I prefer to not give the cops a "heads up" that I am on my way - nothing to see here officer. :)

The existence of modified equipment for no other purpose than to make excessive noise demonstrates that entitled snowflakes exist in all shapes, ages and demographics of society. There’s essentially no difference between the young hipster that sits at a traffic light with his mega stereo blasting rap music at a bazillion decibels, and the middle aged Harley rider with his outrageously loud pipes blipping the throttle every few seconds before he rips away from the light full bore making as much noise as he can. I’m not just picking on those two groups. The same applies to the ski boats, sleds and SxS’s with the mega stereos, loud pipes etc that pollute everywhere they go with excessive noise.
To my mind they’re all entitled, inconsiderate groups that have little respect for others. Just because you CAN do something doesn’t mean you SHOULD.

I find all my stock stuff to loud lol, I'm getting old.I like to support the freedom of make all the noise you want, they want to take all your freedoms away either way,the more you suck up to "them" the more they will take.personally I like to be quiet though.

The way I see it no matter what you do or ride, loud or quite. Your job, your skin colour, heck your Vehicle colour. You will offend someone. I could totally sell all my toys, stop logging, live in a shoe and still my friend would be pizzt that I don’t do anything...no one is safe and we all complain.
i see the point that is being made here but I’m not sure what the answer is because it you save the caribou and run quite with some eco friendly fuels we are still going to get the stink eye.
Every day I see more and more stupidity. people that cut down a song because “it’s cold out side baby” who are these people? No one I know stands for this but yet “we” as people need to respect others and others say there offended. So the song goes. What next...everything, we will loose everything if we keep complaining.
Im going to tap the throttle on the Harley lightly but I’m still running my pipes, I will continue to ride where I’ve ridden for the past 35 yrs. and I will keep cutting down trees spite that nasty protest group that’s at the bottom of our road.
im living my life my way, it’s a free country...well last I heard. Maybe not any more. Non smiley face.
