So on our 8th day of our huatulco, mexico vacation, my wife and i were on the front steps of the dreams resort, waving by to friends of ours that were leaving on a bus, and my wife slipped on an unmarked, slippery step and broke her leg. She was sent by taxi to the little red cross clinic/hospital in la crucecita and she spent the nite there. An xray, showed her leg was broken diagonally(fibula and tibula) but they couldn't do anything at this little place other than monitor and give her pain killers. Options were to fly to mexico city and have it operated on there, or fly home in 2 more days and suffer with keeping her leg elevated for the 2 more days on our flight back. We dicided to fly back and the red cross sent her back to the resort and then picked us up 2 days later and took us to the airport. We paid the $19500 pesos(about $1700cdn) which covered the trauma specialist to temporary splint the leg, xray, pain killers/drugs, overnite stay, and 2 ambulance rides. We can recover the expenses through our medical insurance and alberta health care. When we landed back in canada, we took her directly to the hospital, thinking they could operate the next day, but they sent her home 6 hours later with pain killers and took many xrays, but said the swelling in her leg had to go down substantially before they could operate, so we now have a couple days wait before they operate. P.i.t.a...…

Crappy ! All the best to Ronnie for a full recovery.
You buy that insurance to hopefully never use, but it helps with the extra expense.

Well I guess ths means that you will have to take her again when he is good and ready !

Many years ago Ric broke his ankle at our cabin (pins and screws etc). At the time Ronnie grabbed the truck to transport him to a hospital...we always joked she was going to run him over and finish the job...lol
So I told our kids about Ronnie and her first response from our daughter was...did he try to run her over and finish the job...HaHaHa

Wishing your wonderful wife a quick recovery. Will stop in when I’m back from Rene St Onge’s funeral.

Was at Secrets in Huatulco the year it opened and a woman from Toronto broke her wrist. They called a doctor to the resort and he would only put a temporary cast on it for her until she could fly home early. Oh, I almost forgot, the doctor would only do it for $3,000 USD cash. Ohhhh, and I also almost forgot this, Sunwing charged her and her companion $1,800 to get on a flight 3 days before they were originally scheduled to go home.

Makes you appreciate what we take for granted here at home. Hope she's doing better.

a buddy of mine blew out his knee bad playing beach volleyball in playa. they took him to some hospital that he said looked like an animal clinic...dirty, smelled bad, no one could/would speak english. when he finally found someone to communicate with, they asked him if he had any money. when he told them he had plenty, they immediately rushed him to a new hospital. he said it was the most beautiful and modern hospital he had ever seen anywhere in his life. everyone spoke english and treated him like a king. they even performed his surgery there...it cost him $22,000 Canadian on his American Express, his insurance paid the bill after he got home.
