Lol wow unreal, so much negativity, why not just boycott it all together and end it?

Reminds me of arguments thats its ok to use bitumen, but not the stuff in our backyard.

Clearly the past structures are being utilized by athletes I would say that is the biggest benefit of Olympics. However reality of any Olympics is an endless financial sink hole and in the state of our country right now it just seems reckless the fact that our “leader” can look veterans in the eye and say there is not enough money to support them then stroke a check for Olympics for billions or the endless money he sends to other countries is amazing to me zero accountability. Reality is they will tell people 5billion to get the yes vote and then it will likely cost double or triple and Calgarians and the province will be left to foot the bill.

Hey. I’m just trying to see where our government is at. We have a hospital half built in gp that currently has more security in it then contractors right now. I might have to start a gofund me page here soon.

I don’t want to pay for it, Country/province is already in terrible financial shape. Olympics will have cost overruns as well.
Was at the Vancouver Olympics, watching Canada’s gold woman’s hockey and a speed skating medal. Heck of an experience, but rather not pay for them to come here, can always fly somewhere to see them every 2 years...

Love the Olympics and the competitiveness it represents, But reality is , WE can't afford it !! When are we gonna start realizing that with some of these wonderful events, yeah they're awesome, but we are financing our basics lately, and this would certainly be classed as a luxury item I believe. So, as much as I like the Olympics , my vote is no .

I think Turdeau has an agenda of attracting millions of foreigners to the games and then offering them $5000 a month to stay in Canada! We all know that the economics of the country cannot afford the olympics so why doesnt that matter when spending billions of dollars??

My personal feeling is that the people of Calgary are going to reject the Olympics with the plebiscite. I just hope that Nemshi accepts the vote and doesn't try to over rule it.

Total agreement with the NO side. Last informal poll I saw the vast majority want to reject the bid but the Yes side is pulling out all the stops using our taxpayer money. I'm pretty sure Nenshi would try something if it is rejected and it bothers me that the plebiscite is non-binding. I don't know how the city got that clause put in.

I think there has to be a yes vote in order to get the federal and provincial funding. But with The big purple mayor who knows. It pisses me off to see all the tax dollars being used to promote the yes vote. Don’t think any money went to fund the no campaign.

I was in Van for the 2010's, what an INCREDIBLE experience!

I was standing beside the chick that gave John Montgomery the picture of beer, I still get goosebumps thinking about it. And as a proud (less and less each day) Canadian the atmosphere there was ELECTRIC! Everywhere you looked there were Canada flags, a few houses did Canada flags on their roof out of Christmas lights, I was overwhelmed many times with national pride, it was absolutely beautiful.

But that was a long time ago, long before ballooning security and infrastructure costs.

I absolutely LIVE for winter Olympic's, like already mentioned it's one of the few remaining things that brings the world together is a positive way, but warm and fuzzy feelings go away with the ABSURD cost of hosting, especially when the corrupt IOC keeps the top 80% of profit's even after putting nothing into it.

There is a reason why nobody is lining up for these, cause they are a financial disaster, a taxpayer funded disaster.

Untill the IOC gets off its high horse and starts sharing in both costs and profits it's going to find itself on a deserted island in short order, and it will look good on them.

If hosting Oly's was a money making venture in any way shape or form don't you think city's would be lining up for them? Would the private sector not financially support them? There is a reason why nobody wants them. A very good reason.

VOTE NO TO THE GREEDY CORRUPT IOC!!

I am not a big sports fan unless a motor is involved and I am actually on it. That said I do live in Calgary and have a business here too. Alberta has sent transfer payments east for a very long time so I like the idea of federal money being sent the other direction. If the city does get some infrastructure with this money I am in. Why not get some projects done at 1/2 price. This would be good for our business too as we do a lot of new construction projects. I was here for 1988 and it was good for the city then and there are buildings that we still get business from that came out those games.

Does nothing for the people up North. We didn’t see any influx of activity or monies in 1988 and we certainly won’t see it in 2026. I understand your thoughts on the payments heading east, but from our prospective, we always see provincial monies headin east AND the cities. We get tired of seeing that too. Start sending the monies elsewhere in the province where it needs it. Our infrastructure in this province is terrible. The money can be used to help out the province, not a handful of people and a city...again.
