A doctor prescribed therapy for mental illness and the City of Calgary is doing a review and inspection. I don't believe it! What is this world coming to?

The prescription was for chickens! Yes, barn yard chickens! The City has had to go out and inspect the residence for proper housing of the chickens and that they are cared for properly. Think of all the time that is wasted for some feel good measures for presumed mental health. I haven't walked a mile in this ladies shoes but I don't believe it. What is wrong with the doctor? Is he in a funky mental state as well?

When you think about it, what better animal for mental health support. On those days when you reach the breaking point instead of freaking out just grab one and wring its neck. Relieve stress and get dinner all at once.

Well by the way you are pecking at her it looks like this lady and her doctor have run afowl of your sense of normality. Wonder if her medical plan covers 80% of the purchase and feeding costs of the chicken.

I seem to recall that Edmonton is allowing people to raise their own chickens for eggs and food and have all the cage and care specifications. I have heard of this (emotional support animals). Apparently creates problems from time to time when someone needs to take one on a flight. It is weird but I suppose if it works then little harm in it. I know it is very common with race horses. Chickens and goats were what one owner brought with each individual horse (they each had a favourite) to keep them calm when being moved from place to place.

Could have been a pig :)

I am assuming it is similar to therapy dogs. If it helps and ends up being cheaper than other treatments than why not. It sounds crazy, but if it helps and there is no negative effects. Animals can have huge benefits to some people with mental health issues. I do admit chickens are a first.

You didn't read all of the article. They can't be used for eggs and can't be eaten.

I understand dogs and cats and it being cheaper than drugs but chickens. Give me a break.

Some of you guys are soaking up this mamby-pandy stuff too much.

Can't wait to see what ideas pop up after October 17!
