Today I was heading in from home (yellowhead approx. 15 min west of stony) to the city around 12:00 noon, I was in the slow lane on the yellowhead doing about 10 km/hr above the limit, which most traffic does. I had 3 gravel trucks pass me on the left, all three with tandem trailers and all loaded. They passed me fairly fast, id estimate around 130 - 135 km hr. I didn't realize they drive like hulligans all over the road. One of the trucks had a radar detector in the window, I was surprised. So how does one of these said trucks stop fast, if something goes wrong it goes real wrong. Just my rant for the day.

It’s the purple and teal truck nation...when you slash rates and drive prices into the floor you need to operate without class, respect or consider safety...sorry to say but this is becoming the norm nowadays. We loose 10 to 15 windshields a month from gravel or aggregate trucks alone. Sucks but what do ya do..

If they are newer trucks in good working shape, they will stop pretty dang fast on dry pavement. That is pretty fast though. 120 is my max in dump truck, in ideal conditions I have no problem doing that speed loaded, the only time I go slower and keep it to 100 is if i'm pulling my track hoe. A panic stop with that it might not stay on the trailer

Oh yea they are bad, heard many many bad stories about them and currently fighting with them over running into our truck and driving off. As far as windshields, they seem to be garbage now. Dump truck had it replaced in the spring, it must have 15 chips in it now, it's insane. Not saying it's always the case, but you see how many people tailgate dump trucks? It's downright stupid, and I don't feel sorry for them getting rocks into the windshields doing stupid chit like that.

I live by beach corner area and deal with these drivers all the time, we have set our selves up to fail as a society. Lowest bidder wins the job takes over and runs the common working man out of business, then the rates go up. Rarely are box tarps down and trucks are in borderline weak to below average condition. Speeds are frequently 130-140 on yellowhead and they ride you hard and push you out of the way. Drives me nuts.

Over here in bc we have a little group called cvse and they would love to see these guys driving by. Perhaps a call to your local truck cops.

Loads are not being paid by the hour anymore and neither are the drivers. They are paid BY LOAD to the drivers which has resulted in these guys flying everywhere. Newer trucks without wagons stop very good loaded, but mine is still limited to 120kmh.

If you’d like to complain and cause action, every truck hauling aggregates has a ASGA number on it. Front bumper, side and back. Call the Alberta Sand and Gravel Association, give them them the number and your complaint. Every truck that hauls from pits has to be registered with the ASGA and show that number.

The ASGA is a total joke. I was turning into my subdivision on Sept 18, 2017, and a truck was flying by with gravel coming out of his overfilled box, three large rocks in my window and one on my roof. Truck was 2 months old. I had a dash cam as well and was able to get the number. I contacted the ASGA gave them all my info and someone was to get back to me within 2 weeks. Never heard back. Phoned in and put a second report in, they said same thing, so waited another 3 weeks with nothing. Called in again they put a third claim in, never heard back. So I did some research, and filed a statement of claim against the trucking company and the ASGA. Now my claim is $3800 rather than $280 for a windshield. We will see how that goes when the court date comes, but I have all the documents so both parties can have fun with this.
