Staying in a enclosed vs hotels while sledding?

Hey so I have been tossing up the idea of buying a used enclosed trailer and possibly adding some fold down beds and possibly a wood stove or some sort of heating device that doesn’t require batteries. I would also be using it for hunting trips and general use of a enclosed. I’m curious if anyone ever stays on the hills parking lot? Is it worth the money you save not buying hotels ? I currently have a sled deck and always have just paid for hotels. What’s everyone’s input?

I think it would be fun for a few trips but would get old quick if you were staying places with lots of lodging options. It would be cool for more remote areas though where you'd be doing a long drive each morning from the hotel. Depends on your riding partner(s) too whether they are content on a crappy bed or want to be in town partying at the bar.

I use mine like that a fair bit with my kids camping and riding in the summer.

Haven’t done it sledding. Usually have 4 guys if we take the trailer. If Just 2 guys we take a truck and deck.

4 guys is too many for that in my opinion. Sleds would need to stay out in the parking lot and may not be there in the morning.

But I am interested in checking out kakwa and that would be a place to camp in it.

We use fold up camp cots vs building beds off the walls. They set up very quick. Are Comfortable and save the wall space for other priorities.

Guys do it all the time at Kakwa. Go up first thing sat morning and leave Sunday night.

Part of me wants to try that too.
But I like coming back to a made bed. Warm running water and in door plumbing far too much.

Hottub says it all for me.

But I've also slept in a truck while decking up at Eagles in March... which was not the warmest or comfiest.. but hey, when you're on a budget!

Never done in the trailer before.

Buddy did 4 times last year, sold the enclosed, for all the reasons listed above, it would be OK here and there he said

All the extra cost including more fuel in the truck, genny running all nite for heaters, gear not dry like it would be in room ect

Have to leave your stuff outside and worry about it if you run to town, list goes on

We do it a few times a year when we sled remote locations about 1.5 -3 hours from town and have a blast ( do not want to do it all the time),,,
Bought a porta shower, ( awesome) brought small bbq and a insta pot pressure cooker (frozen ribs in for 30 min then throw on bbg for browning ,,wow)
Trailer has fold down benches/ beds, heat and a built in generator and 100ga of on board fuel so we are set
Although we tend to drink more when we do this,,,,,

We did this a few years ago when a couple buddies had each bought new trailers. We were doing it pretty consistently that season, parking in Allen, Clemina... There was usually 7 or 8 of us in two trailers and we had a riot at the time, only ones out there waking up to fresh snow in the parking lot. It was a great experience for us and our buddies kids.

Things to consider...
-Food. You’re packing everything, cooking all your meals camping style. We would sometimes do a slow cooker in the morning and be glad we did when we’d get down at 9:00 at night.
-Showers. Things start getting ripe after 2 or 3 days or riding.
-Crapper. Nature is your friend.
-Dry gear. It’s a struggle to get everyone’s stuff dry by morning. Stuff is hanging everywhere in the trailer trying to dry out while you’re trying to hang out.
-Fuel. Packing lots of jerry cans for the entire weekend as we didn’t want to run back into town for anything. That defeated the purpose for us.
-Sleds sit outside. Whatever.
-Close quarters. Better like who you’re bunking with, cause you never get a break from them. Everyone’s getting tucked in at the same time every night.
-Evening Entertainment. Bring some.

Like I said it was a blast when we did it and I would do it again. That being said we haven’t done it once since that season...
Probably fun a couple times a year, not every time as it could get old for some.

My best set up was sleeping in the trailer in the parking lot of he hotel with a group that had a room and could run in and poach a shower and head to the restaurant.

I have been thinking about using my truck camper. Early season and late season would work best, not as cold. Needs to be about -15 before the water lines freeze. Has a furnace, fridge, and most importantly, a toilet. I figure a hunt with it until mid December, start sledding November long... On works for 2 people tho.

We use a wall tent with a air tight wood stove, have done it lots. Can hang up all the gear, it sets up quick and holds 5-6 guys. But then again anything 20 min from home is a chance for us to camp and tent it, always a wicked time

Can you just imagine the salt damage after driving down one of our many brine covered highways? In another 2-3 years there is going to be a lot of finger pointing for the damage that is done by the brine to the underside of vehicles.

Never ever would I envision staying in an enclosed trailer. Hotel beds, shower, no hassle food, hot tubs, etc. We stay at both hotels and VRBO's. Usually only averages $50-75/night per person. If you really want to save, put four in a room. That would still be better than sleeping in a trailer.
