42 degrees all the way from Elko to the Koocanusa. Boating at 6:00 o’clock was like having a hair dryer pointed at your face. I’ll take 32 all day, but 42-43 is a bit much

July 15, 1919, when it climbed to 36.1 degrees was the last time Calgary has been this warm.

FernieSnow was it a big deal back then like it is today?

Well, as you know, social media wasn't around, TV wasn't around, radio broadcasts weren't around and the ladies above have got it right on!!!

They should be closing the back-country. It is friggin' dry out there and people are idiots and have a hard time comprehending the moisture levels. They think if a 1/10 of an inch of rain falls it is okay to have a campfire.......look at the Orders and Alerts that are in place. Incredible!

Sad part is that this whole thing has nothing to do with public safety or stopping fires. I’m logging right now in this heat wave. Last week all the local ministry weather sites were all in the 5s and now there back to 4s? What gives, how is it safer to work then last week.
I work around the protection branch of bcts and if the public knew half of what really goes on you’d be suprised.
Fighting fires has become a very profitable business for the government despite what you see on the media. There is always more then meets the eye, we are not seeing much wild fire action in our area so I’m sure the plan is to allow back country use hoping to please the public and also generate some fires to fill the pocketbooks before winter comes. Once the wildfires overcome them the media splashes scary photos of devastation and turmoil to hype up there profits and once the fires subsidize from a lack of effort we can all praze the firefighters for doing there jobs and think of them as hero’s.
iv seen and been around to much bs in the industry to think what the media wants you to believe.
My two bits.

I agree, the media and their sensationalism is out of control on a lot of topics. I totally disagree with the "teachings" of the weather reporters when they start telling us to use sun screen, stay indoors in AC areas, etc., etc.. The same type of sensationalism is employed in the winter when we get to the -20 and lower temperatures. People don't have to think for themselves anymore "cause the weather reporters will tell them what to do."

5D030A2D-4953-4F66-93F2-17D6CA0E247F.png Now you have me fired up again about the media and our redicius govement web sites. Here is a prime example of stupidity. Why is it that a fire would burn through the town of salmo before it become a threat to a drugged up hippy dance but yet we are all told that the shambhala music festival is a landmark before the town of salmo is even considered.
Oh and by the way hippy’s out there the natural fuel brakes that will save your drug induced dance a thon would include the 40000 cubic meters of forest I logged last winter on billing creek...your welcome slackers!

Not sure why everything has to be a state of emergency? Fires have been burning for decades and up in till the last few year its like chicken little and the sky is falling.
its a fact of life and yes homes get caught but really do we need to be told there’s a problem, I’m sure most people can tell there’s a fire and maybe we should act accordingly.
they treat people like idiots when they post this crap. Just do your job and put the fire out...and try to get a start on it before 10am.

Not the Regional Districts job to put the fire out. Like it or not, it IS their job to warn people & evacuate if necessary. I bitched and whined last year when they kicked me out, but they were just doing their job.
