Leaving the house today I went through the stop sign and apparently didn't come to a 100% stop. I was maybe creeping at a snails pace. Cop lights come on and i pull over. $388 bucks and Im sure demerits. I haven't had a ticket in over 15 years and that was in Sherwood Park. I went in and had it reduced with the JP. Is this still a thing? I was also told to ask for video. Ideas?

send ticket to sno n mud admin they may have a slush fund to help pay for the ticket and a lawyer on retainer to fight such frivolous police brutality.

u will have to go see the judge, your word against the police officer= u lose, or see the crown prosecutor before trial and see if you can make a deal " Monty Hall " style, or pay ticket and get demerits, best to contact insurance agent and see what affect 3 dermits will make on your insurance,

Unfortunately the "rolling stop" is becoming the norm, see it all the time, do it myself too often. Invest 50 bucks on a dash cam, then if in future you want to dispute traffic violations you might have a chance. Right now you might as well pay the ticket and learn from the experience.

They have one by Work. Knew about it for years. Never seen them there. The one day I’m coming in late because of a doctors appointment I didn’t stop and wait a couple seconds like a normally do. That was the day they were there and I got a ticket. He reduced it down to $220 though.

OK so you made a mistake. Step 1. Go to the court house and enter a "Not Guilty" plea. Step 2. Go in and see the Prosecutor before your court date. arrange this with counter staff when you enter your plea. Step 3. Explain the circumstances to the Pros. and request an amendment to the "Owners Section" (like a photo radar ticket) If he will do that, you pay a fine but no demerit points. If that doesn't work, request an amendment of the charge to "Fail to Obey a Traffic Control Device". Cheaper than a stop sign an 1 less demerit. Good Luck!

Man who has time for all that ****?

I pay my fines when I renue my registration.
I wouldn't pay them at all, but you can't register your vehicles without paying them. What a scam,, they have no time to find the crackhead that robbed my buddies store last week though....

Just pay the fine... cheaper than spending a bunch of money trying to fight something you will not win anyway. Plus the aggravation, it is not healthy for you.

Couple months back I got my first speeding ticket in over 20 years, Easter long weekend Saturday night 9pm next to zero traffic and the Cochrane Sheriff's are hiding on a side road at one of the 100 -> 80kph transitions outside Bragg Creek. Got me for 99 in the 80 zone, guy never checked my sled for registration, didn't smell for alcohol on my breath, just seemed to be out there writing revenue tickets for the province while probably getting paid overtime. Pissed me off for weeks but I just rationalize it as another tax and eventually they're going to get you somewhere.

When we get "caught" we look for a way out of our responsibility to be held accountable.
It has become the norm to go 10 to 15 kph over posted limits or not stop fully.
As we erode these guidelines what else do we cheat at???
Just a part of the erosion of "what was."

You are willing to stretch the rules them suck it up when caught and pay up. Don't waste the time of others or tie up cops in court trying to weasel out of what has been done. Cops are busy enough without junk duty.
Sucks when caught when distracted by life but to bad.
I average a written ticket about every 5 years and have never fought one.
I take them as a personnel smarten up to pay attention and focus when driving.

Ok, so I stopped, but didn't count to 4 or say S-T-O-P so I guess that means Im 100% guilty. I have no issue paying the fine or taking the demerits as I haven't had a ticket and my licence is very clean. But the ticket is the same as if I was doing 40km/h over the speed limit. Doesn't seem right.

Actually there is no set time you must be stopped for. That was the brainwashing from the driving schools to make sure you stop and check both ways. I fought a stop ticket and won because in court i asked the cop how long was supposed to sit there. He said 4 seconds like i was taught. The actual laws has nothing to do with time. Your wheels must come to a complete stop then you can proceed. Confirmed by the judge and bye bye ticket. I have a class 1 so cant afford to just pay the pig.

Its like if you are cought speeding. Ask in court for the calibration record for the radar gun. They never bring it to court. If they cant produce a key piece of evidence that you request bye bye ticket. Done it.

As long as you come to a stop that is all you need to do. when i looked it up that is the same penalty as 16-29k over the speed limit.

Half the time the officer does not show up for court and it's dropped.

Well aren't we perfect....

Junk duty? Then stop writing frivolous tickets which is an obvious tax grab. Writing tickets for dangerous acts to discourage behavior is one thing, but writing tickets simply to create revenue is another. Laws are designed for the lowest common denominator. 10km over on an empty highway does not constitute a dangerous act, nor does slowly rolling a stop sign if you looked both ways, unless of course you ARE that lowest common denominator....

Take open alcohol in a vehicle. That act in itself is not dangerous, no different that an open bottle of water but listen to the righteous crowd claim how many lives it takes. No it doesn't, it's the lowest denominator that cannot stop themselves from drinking a bunch of them and then becoming a dangerous act.

Take stoney trail in Calgary, people drive like lunatics and it
Is scary as fawk to drive than road at 5pm, yet I see 0 enforcement. Take some back road with 2 cars on it and that's where you'll find them waiting to nail you. Seems to be more about money than safety on the roads to me. Good luck, hope you beat it.

Well dang it anyway. My bad for not knowing when it is OK to break the law (or by how much) and the getting caught part was the part that is wrong.
Never said I don't speed or roll a stop sign......just suck it up when caught. I know the top speed of my supercharged Challenger (and it is waaay waaay closer to 300 than 200) it's just the pouting when some one gets caught.
Oh woe is me, those mean coppers. I was only breaking the law a little........

I robbed him with a baseball bat instead of a gun.......you mean that is not OK?
It was a friendly robbery.......sombody help me.
lol

There is a reason the general public is not allowed to make the rules.
Sometimes the lowest common denominator thinks it is the top of the food chain.
Except the NDP.....that bunch is really f'd up.
lol

Yeah just be happy it is only 400$. IMO they should send you to the gulag for 20 years if caught rolling a stop sign.
