I acquired this boat that i am going to be putting for sale soon but unsure of pricing and information on it. Hoping someone has some insight and where I should price this boat.

Larson Boat 20'ish. Im thinking its mid 1970's appears to have a gm inline 6 with merc leg that says 165hp. Has newer interior, vinyl and carpet, solid floors along with new canopy. This boat is fairly big.

Mercruiser Pre-Alpha 165hp inline 6 based on the Chev 250 block. I can't help you much on what its worth, but I think you will be disappointed on how little you get. I have a 60's boat that is very similar and awesome for a day on the lake. Im always surrounded by the new and fancy boats, but with friends and a bluetooth speaker we have a blast, and only have to pay for the small amount of gas the boat uses!

Yeah doesn't appear I would get as much as I feel it would be worth. Seems like it be a lot of boat for the money if it is mechanically sound. I think the boat may be a 1972. Im sure the newer interior and canopy would be close to $2000. Might run through the boat and check the engine and drive and list for $5000 and go from there. It is a huge boat the pictures don't do it justice.

You can always come down but in the end you'll be lucky to get $2000 /$2500.
Don't put any money into it unless you plan on keeping fir several years for your use. Will end up as a money pit unless previous owner was meticulous re maintenance.
Guessing at a minimum; battery, fuel filters, fuel, carb, possibly fuel tank if aluminium / steel, hoses, starter, alternator, circulating pumps, drive leg bellows, impeller plus a few other things will likely have to be replaced. Add in trailer bearings and likely wiring kit too.

Think sleds are bad for mainainence - can't hold a candle to boats!

Yes I’m starting to realize that. Tried to fire it up last night. Didn’t have much time but see the carb is leaking. Probably would need a carb rebuild. Not familiar with this engine.

might offer it up for trades and get something I want or a little easier to sell if that route is easier.

listed at $4500 and realize that’s on the high end but see if I get any offers.

Just be understanding that most people are not going to give you anything if the boat doesn't run. Especially on the high side. Cheap interior fixed up doesn't go very far if you need to drop another $4k on the motor or leg.

a friend of mine had one similar (1973) with same engine / leg combo. He had it for sale for 2-3 years at 3000 grand and zero action. Ended up selling it for 1000 bucks.

Hold on to it as a tinkering project, or find a friend that will give it a good home. Selling for decent money isn't an option.

Ok, I will list it for $4,500.

Haha....exactly what I was thinking when I read the thread earlier.

Whoa whoa slow down here. I’m definately listening and need to start high, I can always come down in price or accept a lower offer. I realize the realistic price.

I recently sold a 2000 dodge Cummins people told me constantly 10k and maybe 15k max sale price. I sold for $22,000 to someone who was looking for just what I had. Now if I would of started at 15k I would of lost money on the deal. I was ready to accept 10-15k if I had no action after a couple weeks.

Yes each week I will lower the price until sold. Realize that might be at a very low price which is fine. If I get time I will pull the carb and see if it will fire up to help sell faster.

What unreasonable price did you list it at to get 22 out of it??

I started at $22,000 (which I thought was high) and had a ton of interest and sold in 3 days for 21,250 and I kept the 5th wheel hitch which I sold to get close to full price. Now if I would of just started at $15,000 I would of never known people would of paid $22,000. I was willing to lower my price after a few weeks if I had no solid interest. Same idea with listing at $4500 which I think i will lower to $3500 today and keep reducing till sold. People spoke and seems the market value would be 2000-2500.

But you really need to try and get it running. Unless I am buying a tinker boat, I don't think many people will pay any amount for an un-running motor. Not even $2000. Everyone always says, "it just needs a tune-up". What they really mean is, "I have no idea and I hope it isn't the heads or crank, but good luck."

100% agree and yes I really have no idea. Hoping it just needs a tune up. Was running when stored, so hopefully easy repair. Will pull the carb when Time allows.

Thanks for the replies and will update once running or sold.

old boats that age that don't have dry rot in them are rare

and that motor needs water muffs on the leg when you go to fire it up or you'll wreck impeller
