Can a person haul a 9'-6" camper on a Ford F350 diesel single rear axle 6'-6" box with the tailgate down. Is this legal, any feedback would be greatly appreciated and if you do how does the truck react.

I haul a 992 Arctic Fox camper in my F-350 dually, when its loaded for use I rolled through the scales and was shocked. I only had 300kgs left on my back axle. These things are heavy when loaded.

There are campers built for short boxes. Buy one of those. If it isn’t then keep looking or buy a long box truck. Makes a huge different in handling. I was able to drive at the higher speed limits in the US with this one and it handled great in the corners. 80-90MPH. Right truck and camper combo.

Had the same camper, couldn't imagine hauling it around without training wheels of the dually.

i bought a 8ft camper and drive a truck with 5.5ft box ,So far as i can tell i can legally do it so long as i dont exced GVWR/GAWR/max height/4m past rear axlewith marker lights (dont quote me on this , think its a commercial law in Ontario or some where ). Havent found any law about center of gravity , but if there is, 2 quads on a sled deck is way over what i would be doing .

sooo i got out a tape measure , front of truck box to center of rear axle . 2ft 3 inchs, which means 5ft 9inchs would hang behind the rear axle (on a half ton) .... sounded crazy so i google it ..... its been done with heaver camper than i got. even had a write up of what modifications they had to the truck .

not mine just pics off internet

Just picked up an 07 Westland 90W. Under 2000lbs, just wondering if I can short box the next truck as well. The 7.3 only has 111km so I've got time lol

I have a 9'6" camper for my F350 super duty single axle. I just remove the tail gate and its a perfect fit. I even hitch up my 20ft jet boat and trailer to the hitch and ready to roll, all within DOT specification's and requirement's.
Except when i bought my truck it wasn't to be a show piece but was to serve a purpose, it has an 8ft box.
Why do you guy's buy these half truck's, get a truck to suit the need. Same with guys hauling sled's that are half hanging out the back LOL.

Anyone have any stats on short box vs long box sales?

I'm guessing 80-90% are short box...my truck is in the smaller percentage side...8'.

Not enough info really, some campers are way heavier than others.

The bear on a unicycle comment was priceless.

If you took out the company crew trucks because lots of those are long boxes, I bet it’s closerto 90-95% short boxes. I love my long box I couldn’t go back to a short box.

As as for the weight on a camper. As long as you aren’t sagged right out I don’t think the dots will bother you. If it’s to far sticking out it would be easy to toss a set of lights on the camper then you will be good.

Did the exact same thing. 9'5" camper. My tail gate has to come off for the rear step and crapper dump. Hook the boat up (when I had one) or the sxs and quads and away we went. I am all about doing it in one trip. Right tools for the job.

My truck is a long box dually 4 door, I walk a long ways to go into stores lol. I hate parking my truck

I find it more entertaining watching a person with your size of truck trying to park as close to the store as possible...priceless.

Most people's truck also double as thier car. Short box trucks look better and are easier to park in the city.

Ya i know i see it every day, i find it kinda a joke actually.
People will go out buy a truck or what they call a truck, the thing will hardly carry their fat mother inlaw then try to put a sled deck or camper on it HAHAHA

Like SWAT said, "Right tools for the job."
So before buying the truck consider what your planning to do with it then buy it and buy it for the job it needs to do. Don't buy it then try to make it fit for the job after.

I agree, but the point is most people use thier truck as a swiss army knife. Not the best tool for the job, but gets many different jobs done half ass.

Great to have a dually for towing your camper 4 times a year and use a Corolla for getting your toilet paper from the store.

Thing is most people don't have room to park a different whip for every occasion or can afford the payments and insurance and tires
for 5 different rides.

Now these ass clowns should probably just get a tent and a bus pass, but my guess would be they are trying to get a taste of the good life.
