Has anyone ever had any success hunting free range wild boar between Sangudo and Mayerthorpe?
Went out last year and very few tracks.
Have all the gear like feeders and SXS so willing to share gear an travel for information.

Just buying one from a farmer to easy, looking for a bit of fun in this.

I had heard for many year that the Jack Pine Grazing Reserve (South West of Seba Beach) had a very large population of Wild Boar...... where they are in there I'm not too sure, but it was not unusual when sledding on the trails out there to see people hunting for them

Years ago my dad was unemployed during the winter and he’s an old trapper. He spent the winter snaring them up in that country. He said they are very smart animal and one of the hardest animals he tried to trap/snare. He snared them as he would wolves. He ended up get around 40 that winter.

They like the low swampy muskeg areas the best. They did in and hide under it during the day. You find a farmer with swamp land he will give you permission for sure. The rase hell with farm land. Lots of them north west of Romeo lake. You will only get a few shots at them then they move on they are smart animals

I was planning on using a bow over bait but I do have a Kel Tec 16 with 4 clips.

yah my dad is a good trapper. Pretty well known for his trapping and skinning skills! When he was snaring he had a lot of guys wanting to come get them off there farms. CBC or CTV wanted to talk to him and interview him on how he does it, they wanted to feature it over in Europe because they have a bad hog problem and can’t catch them there. He was going on vacation around that time and never called them when he got back! I still give him grief about that.

Snochuck if if you get one dress it out and butcher it they are good eating! And can get big. My dads biggest was about 12’ long when hanging on the loader of the tractor. But be careful hunting they they are mean!

I have had wild boar before. That's why I want to hunt them.
Guy I know was out hunting and shot one.
Could not get to it.....to many others in scrub brush and getting dark.
Would like to put a couple in the freezer.
Something to do till elk season.

223 Might be a bit light for boar. I would feel more comfortable with something that has more punch. I like my su-16 but only for shooting targets and coyotes

Was going to use the 55g Barnes tsx at 3200fps.
Barnes will not break up but might be a bit under gunned at 1200# at muzzle and 900#at 100yds.
Was hoping the rapid back up shots would compensate up close if baiting.

Just itching to give it a go.
Have a list of farmers to go visit.
Distant relatives through marriage........

I have the SU model also with flash arrester, sliding stock and topped with 3-9 scope and a sling for bush packing. Very light and carries well on my back.....on a sled.

If you are worried about 223 for pigs, google some Texas helicopter pig hunts. Looks like fun!

Point I am trying to make is they are easy to kill, our group got just shy of 70 one winter.
