I have experience with residential doors and I can’t agree more, have a professional installer, install your doors and windows. Nothing against framers but a 1/4”””” inch is a LOT when it comes to a door or window.
This is especially true with double doors, garden doors, astragal doors etc. If you want a door that closes and seals properly, hire a pro.
New construction is the absolute worst for improperly installed doors and windows.

We have Lux windows, aluminum clad, fir trim inside. They did a very nice job of providing custom sizes as well as taking stained glass panels we gave them and making both opening and fixed windows from them. They have been installed for 10 years now and no issues yet.

I should mention that I only used them for a pane replacement and not an entire windows. That said, they were fast, thorough, and over %20 cheaper than anyone else willing to do the work. ...All Weather won't do small repair jobs like that.

How has the wood inside held up? Im assuming you have a good HVAC system so there isn't moisture build up on the windows in the winter.

Just put Plygem triple panes in our house, also looked at LUX. From my research Plygem quality has improved however they still get a bad name. LUX is supposed to be a better product but based on our quotes their cost is also premium, this was worth the chance on Plygem.

We got a quote from PlyGem as that is who the timber frame company has contacts with and while they were cheaper than All Weather they didn't have the same options. Most places only offer white or sand interior colors and we are wanting something different.

Lux is looking like a good option from a quick glace, the stainable fir interior with go well with the timbers.

Ya we just had white PVC for our house.

When I had my Reno company, I usually used Loewen.

On the more economical scale, I used Durabuilt. They will custom make any type of window to your wall thickness. From Hybrid, to just plain PVC, you can't beat their selection.

I ordered mine with PVC interior and Aluminum extruded gunmetal grey colour for the outside. Good quality, with a good warranty. triple glazed, Low E, Argon... My doors are a Fiberglass paintable slab with ball bearing hinges, SPF jambs, cladded with the same gunmetal.

My salesman moved to LUX and I looked at their product, but wasn't impressed with their selection, plus they just had standard wall thickness to choose from and their colours were very limited. They seemed too costly for what you pay...
