How much should it cost to do brakes and rotors on a 2010 4Runner? Toyota’s price seems to be very high.

Any 'dealers' price will be high, that is how they stay in business (hence the term stealership). Go to a mechanics shop or do it yourself for a lot cheaper.

The rotors don't appear to be pressed in or anything, so I'm thinking parts + an hour of labor. ...$300-ish?

I recently neeeded a water pump and a rad on my Tundra. The dealer said the job would take 9 hours at @129.00 per hour. I got a local guy to do it for $40.00 per hour and it didn't take 9 hours.

A 3 year old vehicle needing calipers?
A lot of brake jobs are not needed most just need pads changed.
Rotors either warp or had metal on metal.
Shops just love to scare people on brake jobs.
Like when they say should change your brakes because you only have 35%

Have done a few 1/2 ton gm’s and for rotors and pads all the way around is $660.00 ish for parts .
Do them myself as super easy and takes no time.

Napa parts and laybour, they showed me the rotors all cut up and calipers won’t retract because of the corrosion. Our roads are covered in crap, the stuff they put on the roads eats the crap outs things. I have trucks in the shop on a rotation come spring because of the winter roads. There’s no chance for brake parts over here.

They have another trick, to try and get you to remove all brake hardware, clean it up and lubricate it. I was just told that by Dodge dealer, and also that there was uneven brake wear. Yet something like 30% life left. Stealership can make a $8,000 bill for a truck that needs virtually nothing if you know they are trying to rip you off.

I’ve heard this to many times to mention. Dealers will try to pull this on most people because it will void warranty so they threaten.
i agree they should be cleaned so the mechanic of them are free but really who has time to do this every weekend? The crap on the roads eat them up so fast I just replace em every few years or so.
Maybe rick can shed some light on servicing brake parts?. Any thoughts.

Buy the parts aftermarket, which is usually priced better. If your able do the brakes yourself or take it to a decent shop. Not a difficult job. I did my brakes on my 2000 Toyota 4Runner for the first time when the vehicle was 15 years old and 200,000 kms. Only did them because my E-brake was seizing up and I needed to remove the drums to fix it. So I just did them all, besides, they were 15 years old.

There's no warranty on brakes anyway. They aren't that bad, no reason to pull apart and clean unless something is wrong, which it isn't. But then again, I think a big difference is every time I clean my vehicles I always wash the underneath very good, makes a massive difference to get the crap off of everything. In a few years you can tell who does/doesn't by how much rust is underneath.

Although not sure why I care, i'm about to trade the truck off anyway.
