He got it back today. They did both head gaskets for $9200. He went by the shop a few times last week and said it never was moved to a hoist & all the work appeared to be done just with the hood up.

Ya, I don't know why these guys aren't cluing in that they should switch brands. Buy a truck that has a motor designed for twice the kilometerage as the Duramax.

No diesel will last like the pre emmision ones did those days are over my 01 ram has 350 on original engine, doubt my 17 ford would hold up like the dodge did

I wouldn't go by that. I know of a fair number of Dmaxes that are way north of that number and haven't had anything overly major done to them. Not to mention who knows how much hp was thrown at them via a canned tuner or someone who had no clue what they were doing with EFI Live.

Hell, the rest of the truck will be shot before the powertrain is toast on most of these diesels.

Stetson in Drayton told me $8G to do Head gaskets a couple years ago.
Just asked as GP dealer said $10G.
They lift the cab .
we just did a set of head gaskets with studs and it was around $7g with all the good stuff and resurfacing etc...

For that price he could’ve had it fire ringed, headstuds, and deleted.

02 duramax 438,400km original motor. (New injectors)
06 duramax 428,000km original motor. (Cracked fuel rail because of PPE plug)

The truck in question has 250k or so, totally stock and the guy doesn't drive hard. My 11 Duramax l just retired has 423k and no problems. I didn't know head gaskets were ever an issue on stock Dmaxes.

The only Duramax that had a head gasket issue was the early LLY builds, and they were far and few in between. My buddy has a twin turbo LLY and he runs 60psi with stock head BOLTS and gaskets. It all depends if your truck was a Friday build or a Wednesday build I guess lol

Or if rad is half blocked with fuzz, meaning pulling too hard, gets too hot, cranked up too much, the list goes on
