The cost of injury claims is closing in on $3 billion annually. I guess we need an ethics commissioner to tell people not to steal hundreds of thousands of dollars, or better yet a commissioner that made them pay it back.

Add to that the fraud that is perpetrated on the insurance companies. When we go to non serious, lower speed MVC’s, I detail one of my guys to keep a watch on the persons involved in the accident. Certain ethnic groups will get on the cell phones and soon there are several more people on site claiming to be passengers in the car, often trying to climb inside the wrecked vehicles. We detail for the cops who was initially involved and leave it with them. Hopefully they make the effort to send the rest packing.

LOL I actually witnessed an accident almost like that but they did not call in for back ups. They T-boned another car which I watched late at night. I rushed to the intersection and seen all 5 occupants out of the car talking about the accident. Then all of the sudden they heard sirens and jumped back into the crashed car and fastened their seatbelts (car was totalled). The fire dept actually pulled out the jaws of life to extract them LOL. I pulled the RCMP officer aside and told him what I witnessed and he laughed saying he has heard this before and will pursue them if they claim injuries. A few weeks later I got a call from an investigator asking for my testimony as they all filed injury claims.

How about when you come around a blind corner and a vehicle is pulled over in the middle of the lane. They almost got me last year in my brand new truck.
Rat bastards!! I would have lost that fight with ICBC for sure. Dash Cam's are awesome and there worth investing in.

Haha, i have seen this before 20 years back. More than once on a narrow curvy road ...Standing joke was they had neck braces all ready to slap on. At that time both cases were east indians. Not saying that would be the Rat bastards you had a run in with.

ICBC wants to make a profit then do some house cleaning and get rid of the useless adjusters. I know personally of several cases where their was a fake injury and one of them i provided picture evidence that they were fake. I was told "its easier just to pay they out i know they are faking the injury" . Now if they do that for at least half the claims then dam their is most of their huge loss. Also still dont understand their thoughts on lets write off this $80000 veh because it has $10000 worth of damage.. So they spend $70000 more than they needed to?
I brought this up elsware and was told by a guy that runs a body shop (funny enough right next door to ICBC) that i did not know what i was talking about.. Pretty sure i have seen this all first hand..

Personally I think these road maintenance companies should be held accountable for the shi#$y jobs they do. Used to be plows were out as soon as snow flies. Now it seems that you don't see them till after the storm. Very little sanding, and ya ya everyone should drive to conditions, I don't think its unrealistic to expect the roads to be kept in decent shape. No excuse for a main hwy to be that bad.

100% agree! We drove back from Tunkwa Lake (outside Sovona) on Sunday when we had the blizzard. Did not see a single plow all the way to Armstrong. I told my wife that this was completely unacceptable. IMO services like road clearing where safety is a factor should not be for profit.

Road clearing is never "for profit". It is always at a taxpayer's expense. Reducing only helps reduce taxes. Our choice I guess.

granted tax payers pay the private company to clear the roads but they aren't doing it for non-profit themselves. So, if the contract is x amount what stops the private road maintenance company to hold back a plow or two if they can get away with it to put a few extra bucks in their pocket?

Road clearing is never "for profit". It is always at a taxpayer's expense. Reducing only helps reduce taxes. Our choice I guess.

Highway maintenance has gotten even worse this year. You can tell where they interface between Salmon Arm and Sicamous as it will be brutal from the 97B intersection to the eastbound passing lane and then gets much better towards Sicamous. SA side will be ice and compact snow and then heavily sanded and just wet asphalt at the east end.

Emcon in Revelstoke has reportedly halved their drivers (got rid of the on call plow drivers) so are keeping it all open with a bare bones crew and it is always very evident between 3 valley gap and Revy as it gets significantly worse on that stretch as well.

Yep same my way. Sure see the difference where the city leaves off and csrd takes over. Funny how employers are supposed to be accountable when employees get hurt, these road companies should be held responsible for negligence if poor maintenance contributed to accident.

I believe they still do. When we lived down in N.Delta and moved back up in the '90's we seen a pretty good savings at that time. Cant remember how much but I do remember it being a fair bit. Maybe things have changed.

You would also think that if accident rates were higher in lower mainland then they should pay more. Can't tell me they don't track trends and know where the costly accidents are happening. When I moved back to BC from AB my insurance on just mine and wife's vehicles doubled.
