Diesel DEF and Bee's

Remember that all these alternate fuel vehicle manufacturers always state their best case. Add hills, low temperatures, headwinds, higher loads etc into the mix and the 300km advertised range falls off really quick. Add to that the infrastructure needed to supply electricity to a huge grid of charging stations is enormous, and that it’s a direct increase in demand on the electrical grid. Taking a gas powered vehicle off the roads doesn’t lighten the load on the existing grid.
And don’t forget charging time on an electric vehicle. I think the best time for a recharge on something like a Chevy volt is from 30 minutes to 3 hours depending on variables. Imagine having to pull into gasoline alley in red deer and having to sit there for a couple of hours to refuel your vehicle.

It'd be alright I've heard all the hotels in gas alley book rooms by the hour. Supplied companionship is extra tho

Seems like a pretty dumb thing to do as you still have carbon monoxide from the exhaust, a very silent killer!!!

And scientists overwhelmingly have decided that carbon dioxide is the main cause of global warming. I love the idea that these new diesels can use up to 20% more fuel to lower the emissions! Sounds ass backwards to me.

Unlike CO2, NOx and soot are real pollutants and should be controlled. The extra 10% of fuel and resultant CO2 (plant food) is the cost with current technology.

I know, is just a bit frustrating that there is incentive to pollute by taking the smog control equipment off.

I hear you. The price of DEF is irrelevant really for a pickup but when the warranty runs out on that overpriced emissions equipment a person has to make a choice. I'm guilty of deleting before. The day will soon come when the govt won't leave you the option. Yesterday was one of those days where Calgary was marinating in a yellow smog haze. We have little industry, it's almost all from vehicles.

I have a good view from downtown to NE Calgary and I think a lot of the smog comes from the airport

That day is here in the commercial trucking industry. Our trucks that had DEF will not technically pass the yearly safety inspection if deleted.
The biggest issue with electric cars will be the power infrastructure in the residential areas, it will likely come down to allowing so many per block or grid.
