If they were flying from west to east that's an interesting spot. Chances are also likely that that plane was under avy debris for a while.

If they can land a plane in the middle of Calgary and not hit anyone the highway would be pretty safe imo.

Considering the guys parking job I'm not too confident he could land on the trans Canada in the middle of winter without incident.

I would say he was iced up and most likely didn’t have any visibility at that time and just ended up hitting the ground that close to the highway by fluke. Mooney’s are a fast plane but don’t have as much lift as say a Cessna 182 so icing has a much faster effect. Rodgers pass is notoriously bad for icing and once you leave revy there’s really no turning back if your in a plane flying under the weather. It closes in fast. We have had to set down quite a few times for weather going through the pass but in a helicopter it’s a bit easier to land. I’m glad they found the plane and can finally bring closure to the families.

Yeah I feel bad for the family. Pretty risky to be flying a plane like that through there imo.

From reading last night the picture appears to be just east of the hemlock grove boardwalk looking west.
