Shortest day of the year.....

We just passed the shortest day of 2017. Daylight will be increasing by about 15 minutes a day (roughly 7 minutes in the morning and 7 minutes in the evening). Winter has officially started in the northern hemisphere!!

WRONG it is not 7 minutes more like 1 minute a day we will not see the difference till feb.

You are quite emphatic this morning! Even capitalized it!

I did a little research and it is more confusing than straight forward. I found someone who says, it is "seconds longer" each day, and another quote below which supports your info;

Following December 2, we add, at best, a mere minute of daylight to each day at sunset. By January 7, though, we're adding a full two minutes each day to the daylight hours --one at sunrise and one at sunset.Jan 27, 2010

Years ago, we used to teach that chit and maybe they are more precise now. I do know that it depends on where one lives as to the changes. The further north one lives, the longer it is dark to the point of no "sun above the horizon" for weeks on end.

Anyways, it makes me feel better that the days will be getting longer and we will be getting more sunshine even though it tends to get colder.

Never read the article but for the next 16 days the sun gets up later and later each day but the extra day light is added to the end of the day after 17 days from the solstice the sun starts getting up earlier

Bring this up again...............what with the controversy of some of the above, we are nearing the longest day of 2018. Not very long now until the days start getting shorter......hehehe
