First winter snap retards on the road

We got are first snow yesterday,around here you don't have to have winter tires, only on certain highways so needless to say there were ditched cars and fender benders everywhere like usual most of the sh#ty driver's around here are grey haired, really don't need to be out on the road but feel they have to go out for something.as a grader operator I see my share of idiots and stupid drivers,all you can do is laugh and shake your head.

Add to that a road maintenance contractor that doesn't. One of the many reasons I retired. Tired of risking my life to get to work in the morning in the winter. My daughter found out the hard way yesterday. Rolled her truck on a section of hiway that has been glare ice for three days and the contractor has done nothing about it.

Well.....they have now. The RCMP insisted after the fourth accident they had to respond to.

Your daughter was driving too fast for conditions, you can't make sand stick to glare ice with blowing winds. There is some ****ty contractors out there but most try there best. Oh ya remember salt only works above what temp? Lets always blame the highways for poor conditions..

That's a bold statement considering you don't even know where she rolled it. Road salt works till about -10C. Most of the kootenay's (if that's where she was) hasn't even been that cold till last night.

You want to see $hitty road contractors? Go drive Hwy 40 south of gp.

They've figured out how to do it in the states.... always an embarrassment coming back from south of the border to drive on our roads. Specially Saskatoon's road system.

You can see the road maintenance on my commute during the storms. It is a night and day difference. The highway 2 and 28 are icy then as soon as you hit the henday it is wet and gtg. Two different contractors.

could not count how many times i have been passed coming into a blind corner, by mario andretti type, in a big hurry to go nowhere. they like to follow for a half mile then decide the blind corner is the place to pass. coming into golden is always interesting.

NO, NO, NO, that maybe one factor here but it's the lack of effort to save $$$. I see it time after time here, remember it's a contract and if they cut back on sand, salt and plowing you put dollars back in your pocket.
They also have the right to refuse unsafe work just like anyone and they play that card too. there regulated to meet a certain standard on road systems but with the lack of seasonal/qualified help and holding out to the last minute they always find themselfs in the rears.
Best advice I have is go back to non privitized help. The money spent on our current refugee situation should be put towards keeping OUR people safe on the roads. Yes it costs more but just think of the cost saving to Wcb and icbc claims? Plus contract truckers, fire trucks,ambulances,school buses getting things done in a timely fashion...it goes on and on.
Yes we deal with three different road Matinance contractors here and there all different, knowing personally they do profit from non performance.
oh yah the liquid brien sticks like sh$t to a blanket so why isn't that being used??? Won't blow off the road in slick situations.
Please don't get me started on driving to fast.

Road crew here has been using liquid brine, it really does nothing from I have seen.

It is a joke on how poor a job they do. My buddy is the mechanic for them and Wednesday morning he heard the drivers on the radio saying the Panorama road was done and good. Not long after RCMP called them requesting sand asap due to a roll over and 6 vehicles in the ditch.....

I laughed because I went to work at 7 am and there had not been a plow on the road yet. My own plow was up and still winging snow!

Have seen down here, what I would say looks like immigrants from Somalia, that are the worst drivers. They have their head phones on, jamming to their tunes, and don't look like they have a clue as to what they're doing. On the Interstate, will pass a car and then slow down, over and over and over...... When the roads get bad I expect they will be screaming racism.

Having winter tires is a great idea but I think it gives many people a false sense of security and they think they can drive faster. Fully agree people need to slow down. If you need to be in 4 wheel drive to stay on the road at 80km you shouldn't be doing 80km/h. Just my opinion.

Also would be nice to see sand again, save the pea gravel for the playground
