It affects all of us, and the proof of that is very evident when you look at the majority of kids today.

If you look at the majority of older people they are crotchety, stuck in their ways, and are never going to change.

And evident of what? That teenagers by definition are rebellious? So you as a young person never did anything older generations would have frowned on?

LOL, oh great . Now we're gonna get lectured by a group who got the same ribbon or medal for coming in last as the kid who came in first , Never received a failing grade regardless of effort or results, or decided to "identify " as the opposite gender, or protested vehemently that trump isn't my president cause they supported Hillary, or dress their 3 year old boy in only girl clothes cause they feel his gender is his own decision ( despite the obvious male parts)

maybe the old people aren't crotchety or stuck in their ways, Maybe they actually are just smarter than those who think they're old and crotchety. Entitled whiny tits are becoming very commonplace lately, but a lot of them do seem to get a lot smarter when they've matured and had a bunch more life experiences to help them make better decisions.
Young people hate hearing that " with age comes wisdom" but it's very often true.
Like it or not.

Whether you like it or not the world is changing, and will change with or without your support. Unfortunately it is those that refuse to change that run the real risk of costing the UCP the next election. Quite frankly the choice is take a moderate stance on social issues or have the ndp in again with it's extremist views, take your pick.

Kenney has the next year to make it appear that he can be open on these social issues. Then once in power can play bait and switch just like the ndp did.

I know most of you won't believe this to be true, and I'll get 10 posts following this trying to contradict in one way or another, but S&M is a very small biased portion of the Alberta population and not a true reflection of reality.

Reality is a very subjective thing , most often relative to individuals .

As pointed out by ABmax, demonstrating any type of behavior or making a statement that can, in any way, be construed as being against progress made by minorities, special interest groups etc. will be used as a virtual club in the media. During the election, these talking points are presented in the most negative way and will cause otherwise supporters to change their vote.

I am hoping that the NDP will be a one trick pony but seriously doubt Kenny's ability to avoid weighing in on subjects that should clearly be avoided. The NDP is also not as horrible as I thought they would be. They like to spend like drunken sailors but have held off on tax increases...yet. If they do lose the next election they will be able to berate the new government for trying to generate revenue to deal with the debt they created. Here's to hoping the Sturgeon bitumen refinery works as good as advertised and we can spin that into cash.... Interesting article on this in the Industry update section of the Sherwood Park News Industry update with comments by its proponent Ian MacGregor but I digress.

You can feel what you want about the increased awareness being shone on the stuff you do not like or are uncomfortable with such as gay rights. You can sit on the porch (or on a sled on top of a mountain) and commiserate with like minded people about how the younger generation is going to hell in a handbasket but that talk will do nothing but make you appear out of touch with the majority of the voters who live in cities.

This talk does not win elections period. If you feel that you are somehow affected by gay marriage (or whatever) I am curious how. Unless you are gay and want to marry a member of the opposite sex, I do not see how it could matter to you. You don't have to like it but you do need to remain mute on the subject IF YOU WANT TO APPEAL TO ENOUGH PEOPLE TO GET ELECTED.

I am truly concerned that Kenny will not be able to put aside his personal beliefs to appeal to enough voters. It is up to him to prove me wrong.

Gay marriage, homosexuality, lesbian, to me they're personal lifestyle choices, and I really don't care who they kiss or marry. I do however care when they begin to demand special treatment and extra concessions, more rights than straight folks. That's a slippery slope and it gets steeper half way down.
If you feel we should stand by and observe unfettered immigration, gazillions of tax payer dollars paid out to unfortunates all over the world, giving equal time to Muslim and Islam religions in schools, while at the same time minimizing or in some cases eliminating our customary Canadian culture oriented content, allowing the extremists to prevail when it comes to gender identification, bestiality, respect and equality for women , just to name a few, So that the party we want can get into power, I'm gonna suggest by that time the horse is a bit out of the barn.
I understand your viewpoint but , respectfully, it's not gonna work out for us.

I'm just tired of these types of LBGQ and minority issues taking front stage all the time. I feel they these groups are doing themselves a grave injustice by constantly overshadowing issues that are far more important, impact far more people, and should be far more prevalent. While I've historically been tolerant and often supportive of these groups, I'm finding myself increasingly frustrated with their persistent complaining and mud slinging in the media and am quickly becoming less and less tolerant. I'm starting to get really pissed that I can't have a debate about my personal, somewhat trivial hot topic (land use) without being drug into a gay rights conversation. Cripes man!!! OK, rant over - time for a snickers.
