Thinking of buying one of these looking for any feedback on one.Do they work well. Any comments would be great.

I sell a way better radio for less money. BaoFeng UV-82HP with whip antenna and remote mic, 8 watts versus 2 watts. UHF and VHF vs 22 uhf channels only , 128 programmable channels vs 22 non programmable channels. Dual channel vs single channel. Can use the BC RR channels and repeaters vs no RR channels or repeaters. All the big name pros here are buying them from me. 169.00 for 1-4, 149.00 for 5+ . I have them in stock and shipping is free.

I have a bca and riding partner has baofeng, would say the baofeng is not better, about same, but is cheaper if you get off e-bay
Lots of different BaoFeng models even some knockoffs. The UV-82HP is one of the few ones FCC approved and is their top of the line model.

I also bought both last year. They both work about the same. one thing I don't like about the cheapie is the corded mic is junk. The bca mic is 100 times better and because of that it's the radio I prefer to use.

I've used both, can't seem to find a mic that works well for the baofeng. That being said if you don't need road channels the bca is slick

You need a license to operate any power of vhf radio (not FRS/GMRS) in Canada unless things have changed. Self programmable are not legal either unless you are a technician or have a HAM license IIRC. That said I use a radio very similar to the one RGM offers as I like to be able to monitor the LADD channels on the hwy, call km up a bush road and still communicate with my riding group on FRS channels as well as have communication with SAR in a rescue situation and do it all with one device.
Not illegal just to monitor channels. I have never heard anyone getting charged in the backcountry. You can ask the local heli company if you can use their repeater in an emergency. Just use some common sense and stay off the cop channels.

I had to tape over the knobs on the BCA radios because it seemed that every time I went to use it that me ,or my partner , had inadvertently switched channels. Very frustrating indeed.
I went to a few baofeng radios for the ability to interface with anyone and anything . Logging roads. Ladds. Frs radios. Way more versatile. And I have learned a lot about radios in general , during the process.

when you have your VHF radio programmed you can have them set it so that the RCMP channels are receive only, not transmit
Yes you can set the duplex to off with Chirp.

My canmore to lake louise works. Haven't had any luck hearing anything from golden to revy with the channels i have.

So when you take your helmet or pack off you need to unplug the junction box cable? Might have to try one.

The programmable Baofeng radios are VHF/UHF band and can be programed to the same UHF channels as the BCA radios. The BCA website lists the frequencies used...they are FRS/GMRS channels in the UHF band.
