Decided to upgrade my steering rack while at the Jamboree. Ordered it Friday and it came today. Obviously after being screwed over so bad by UPS I made sure that they shipped by other means. I asked for Fed Ex. They didn't use them but would ship USPS Air. This in the past has been ok as long as the shipping didn't cost too much. She said 70 buck US. I said get it done. So I pick it up today and get dinged an additional 50 bucks by canada post. WTF????? Now they charged me handling and gst. So this small little box cost my $140 bucks to get here. Not even delivered to my fawking door anymore. I still have to drive into town to the post office. And these fawkers need a raise or they are going on strike???? Btw if I was in the US this would have cost me $599 shipped. Here it cost me $950

If it steers as well as the other two brands Ill be happy. It is one of my only complaints. There are not many.

$50 sounds about right for GST on the item value + the Canada Post brokerage flat rate of about $10. Where UPS and FedEx primarily screw people is their brokerage fees are a percentage of item value rather than a flat rate like Canada Post.

USPS is good for me, i always try to get things sent as a "gift" or "used" with a lower declared value. Helps on the GST. Canada post brokerage is 10 times better then UPS. UPS usually charged me 30% of the value of the item in brokerage fees...

My dad works for Canada post, the new union bartering agreement they were going to get a raise that equaled out at about a $0.01 an hour raise... And change the pension for crap. So i can see why they're not taking it.

USPS is getting as bad as UPS. At this point I see no difference. With Fed Ex it cost half and is faster. $140 with usps air= 6 days. Ordered Friday, arrives Thursday. Fed ex air cost $70 and arrives in 2 days. Once took 3 days. Plus Fed Ex will leave it at my door.

You can also self broker. It takes a trip to customs at the airport(parking$). Plus your time($), but UPS will supply you with the paperwork and rescind there brokerage fees.
USPS is the way to go. Out of five US shipments Canada post will usually pull one aside and charge GST,duty if applicable and a small brokerage fee.
DO NOT get it shipped to a business address if your going to self broker as they will make you jump through hoops to prove you're not reselling for profit:).

How is USPS the way to go if I'm being charged $140 for a small box that takes a week?

I have used ups and have the exact same issue. You never know what you're being charge until 3 months later. They cost the same as what I was charged with USPS. Fed ex has always been consistent.

Before I had my border mail box, I was getting screwed on anything coming from south of the border. Now, everything goes USPS (my choice) and is shipped to the Outlet and most things I order have been free shipping within the lower States. I pick it up. Most times there are no taxes (CBS can't be bothered collecting the pittance and holding up the re-entry line) and never any duty.

Living in the northern part of the provinces makes this process difficult. It sure works for me.

So true ... When we go south in the winter , even with the crazy exchange, we are still further ahead bringing our parts back with us ...
The shipping thing is such a gimmick / rip
off....!

I would have a postal box too if I was closer to the border. I travel to the states at least once a year. But that is to Maui. It is just as expensive to ship there then here lol

It's 100% the Canadian government ripping us off and killing online shopping and "free trade". They get away with it cause we are all a bunch of pussy lay downs that don't complain about anything, or even care if someone is ripping us off, hence the tax the hell out of anything here is a great business, anyway I file complaints everywhere, and I always use USPS cause they can't be bothered to tax snail mail;just plan ahead if you can;end rant
