One can only speculate how that happens.
With a fatality and injuries of the public I sure hope their maintenance and certification records are in order along with operator comptence eg ticket.

I say wind all the way. Nothing broke and the crane was inspected the day before. It was being boomed to the ground so I would expect the main to be at 80 degrees and the luffer all the way down until it landed, without knowing the boom length combinations. But 565' is a lot of boom for the wind to grab and 250,000Lb of cwt can only hold so much wind...

I guess your number is up when you get splatted 500 feet down the road by a crane in the middle of a city. Sheesh!! What are the chances???
