I got lucky this year... I'd like to share a story not because i want a pat on the back but just goes to show most families in need are far more likely to give then those who don't.

Town will remain un named to protect the family as they don't really want squat from anyone.

My dad ( hadicapped and old) decided to go to a remote family cabin by himself. I opened up the road for him just a few weeks before so he was confident he could go sit there and enjoy the scenary. ( he can walk maybe 15m at time. turns out he used his truck to charge the battery for his solar power and some kind of a machine he sleeps with... truck calves on him and he's forced to take my quad into town to buy a new battery... weather turns bad, local shop has nothing to help him out for his diesel truck and he's already soaked to the bone... kid at the local shop phones his dad and explains the situation... this guy goes out finds my dad sitting in the rain with his quad just running... brings him into his house... they are flat broke hardly any food in the house... and they find my dad mildly hypothermic... slurred speach freezing kinda thing... this guy has 4 mouths to feed and hasn't worked in two years they take him into his house get him warm and dry... they feed him... he sleeps on their couch for the night... the guy goes into town early in the morning buy a jerry can full of gas for his truck and drives my dad back to the cabin so he could jump my dads truck...

I met the guy a few months later and was a little suspisous of the story... now let me tell you...except for a few farm animals this family has nothing... he has confided to me that there are days his family has no food... no one deserves to have to live like that...

i know who's getting my support this christmas... it was hard for me to ask him but i know his kids will get nothing as he's mention as much and they know it too and don't care... this family gave everything they had to help someone they didn't know or trust... i cant say i would have done the same... long story short we have all become good friends and we try to help them where we can... what i find the most shocking is that his kids never complain or worry... they have a strong faith in their God and are great people i feel lucky to have found these people who i know can really use my help... and to be honest i can use their friendship as they are salt of the earth kind of people

these people have no food bank where they live... i think if we all look hard enough it's easy to find a family in need... local churches are often a good source and a few years back there was a published list of charities that have the lowest overhead and highest amounts of benefits paid out... i will look those up and see if I can repost them on here... some charities pay their employee's too much of your money i'd i wouldn't touch them... scum bags getting rich of people's kindness

Caring for Kids Radiothon - Alberta Children's Hospital Foundation

Radiothon started today. This one means a lot to my family. 5 years ago my 18 month old needed a stem cell transplant for treatment for a genetic disorder. Without treatment she was given a couple years to live. She needed to go through cheemo and radiation to wipe out her system for the transplant. 3 weeks into process my wife gave birth to our son. We were already pregnant when we got the diagnosis of our daughter. So we had a full plate. So I spent every single night sleeping beside my daughter in the hospital for 4 months while my wife took care of our baby at the Ronald McDonald house. The care we were given is unbelievable and know first hand that this place is truly worthy for your donations.

wish you all the best for your young family!!!! Cant imagine your position with such a young child already facing adversity in life. I donate yearly to Canucks Place in Vancouver when they have their telethon. Every dollar helps for these facilities to continue giving the services they do.
