I am curious.. and I think this is the right crowd to help. I own 3 rifles I inherited when my father passed away. I've only ever shot a 22 once, at cans for target practice on a friends farm, but I enjoyed the hell out of it.

I think I may take this up as a casual hobby. I will probably never hunt, unless the world continues to degrade but that's another discussion. I'd like to get both "licenses" (lacking proper terminology).... restricted an non-restricted (I think). I'd then like to buy a rifle, and a hand gun... (once legal). For absolutely no other reason than target practice/fun/hobby.

Is there a place I can buy something user, that is a trustworthy source (not a POS)? Are used sales even legal? If not where can I look online at firearms that might interest me? I already know of a local gunshop that will help me with all the courses and paperwork etc... but their guns are pricey and new, and probably overkill for me. What are good brand names and guns for newbs?

Ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts?

I'm pretty good with handling addiction... quit smoking after 20 years.... but I do appreciate the warning.

Got a pic of your $300 one? Is that a typical price for a used hand gun? I was thinking in my head "IF I spend $1000 I'd be okay with that".....

Handguns go anywhere from 130 for a torakev up to way more than I ever wanna consider paying haha there's a huge range and a billion different models styles ect truck is finding something that fits your grip and is comfortable to shoot best thing is to go to a shop and put your hands on a few different options see what you like

Awesome, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. So it seems a handgun is affordable enough for my purposes. I am window shopping online now. :) You aren't kidding... there's a million.

i sold my handgun a few years back just due to the hassle that there's no good ranges around edmonton, wild west is a joke and gang hangout, phoneix is too expensive and the sherwood park range is just to far of a drive. apparently theres one in mornville thats closer to me that i'll check out and if its good and affordable i'll probably get another handgun.

SKS? hmmmm brand name?

The SKS is a Soviet semi-automatic carbine chambered for the 7.62×39mm round, designed in 1943 by Sergei Gavrilovich Simono

They are an old Soviet military rifle and they are in mad surplus,, so you get them cheap and ammo cheap.

My advice is to shop on Canadian Gun Nuts forum. You'll need an account there and then ask for permission to see the equipment exchange subforum. And for learning how to get good with handguns and what equipment is good to buy you'll want to start hanging out with the local IPSC shooters.
