I have been thinking about finally getting a 1080p LCD HD TV. Does anyone have any advice on what brand and model is a good value. I am thinking about 40 " . I see a lot of ads for Toshiba , Sharp, Sony, LG, Samsung, Panasonic. Any good experiences ? Any bad brand experiences ?

If your going to go LCD insted of plasma make sure your buy a 120mh and not a 60mh. My personal opinion is Samsung Plasma all day long... Samsung also has a 2 year warranty on all their tv`s. BTW, Sony and Samsung is the same company if your thinking Sony.....

My advise would be to really get the TV you want. If you like the price of a 40" but have always wanted a 50", buy a 52". Pay the extra for 1080p. You'll be happier down the road and over time the price difference is minimal for happiness. I would also recommend buying all HDMI cables right away and blue ray. If you want it to look as good as on the display this is what you'll need. I just watched 2SCS 11 on my 50" tonight and it looks sick!!!!
Good luck, should be some good deals after Christmas.

I have had really good luck with Samsung TV’s. I’ve had my 62” LED DLP for almost 2 years. Absolutely no issues. Samsung’s Blu-ray players on the other hand, I would avoid. Lots of good info on AVS forums

There are only 2 brands to buy when it comes to LCD TV and that is Samsung or Sharp. Consistantly rated as the best. Go to C.Net and read all the reviews. Unbiased and to the point.

When you get your TV you should invest in a good colour/picture tuning DVD or pay the $100 to $200 to have a pro tech come to your house and set it up. You can also search the net for the settings that some pros post for free. You WILL get the best picture possible this way and appreciate your TV that much more.

I'm also in the market for a 42" TV, but can't decide if I should pull the trigger today, or wait for thursday.

Zar, I've got a 40" Sony Bravia "W" series, biggest I stuff in over the fireplace. Shop around and look at all the ones everyone's mentioned and trust your eyes. You get what you pay for!. Very happy with the Sony and yes get the 1080. :happyholidayswreath By the way Zar the DVD's were awsome

Have a Panasonic LCD, and love it. The only problem is that I wish it had more HDMI connections on it. And don't fall for the line about the expensive HDMI cables being better. Its a digital signal, it either works or it doesn't.

i have a 52" samsung upstairs and a 42" sharp downstairs both great tv but i think samsung has quite a bit sharper picture (helps it 10" bigger) only for the fact of the 120 hz on the samsung rather then 60 on the sharp.both have hd satellite and hd and blu ray players. If you mind spending the money go with the samsung...but...sharp has the 65" lcd 120hz!!!!!

future shop has the 52 " samsung on for 1100 on boxing day...good deal!!
