Just spent a lot of money putting in a new gravel driveway this summer - what is the best way to clear the snow from it. Large acreage driveway.

I have used a skid steer in the past but hate picking gravel from my lawn in the summer - do snowblowers work well for leaving the gravel surface relatively untouched????

I use a blade on my quad.Try and leave the first few snowfalls to pack. Then hopefully you don't get down to the gravel when you start plowing.

Like Mike said I've been using a blade on my quad to cleen snow in my yard for 12 years, and you have to leave the first couple snow falls to drive on and harden and you are away.

no pics but just fab up two pieces one on each end out of tubing cut in two and 4 inches wide and longer bolts, stops your blade from digging in.

Yah... what woodies said. Pack the first half inch nice 'n hard. Plus pads as well. Should have pads on any plow for gravel drives IMHO.

Happy plowing :d If we ever get any snow

pack down the first couple of snowfalls. I have a wooden skid that I use with about 100lbs of weight on it. Drives it into the gravel a bit better and keeps it smooth. A couple of tires dragged behind does the same thing.

I have used pads on the bucket of a skidsteer and that works pretty well. I have a longer drive way and nothing beats a blade. I have a 4 way on the front of my tractor - and for me it is twice as fast as the bucket.

I use this setup........ you can set the skids on the bottom for whatever height you want.....on the gravel I use 1/2" and on the concrete, I drop it flush

Like the above have all said. the trick is to get a solid base down and then you are good to go. I use the plow on the quad (now a rhino) to do the first few snow falls. then after that I have a snow blower on the front of the kubota.

I have a 2007 Rubicon with a 48" manual plow. My question is why won't my plow get a little closer to my driveway which is cement and very level. I looked at the pads they’re as low as they can go. I put a 40 lbs sand bag on it and it’s still not doing as good a job as I’d like. When it’s sitting with the plow down it sits almost flat on the ground but as soon as I start plowing it seems to me it takes the path of least resistance. I know it's bad for the plow to drag on the ground, but I would say there’s somewhere around a 1/2 inch or so left of snow. Is that normal or what am I doing wrong? I just got my Rubicon about 8mths ago so I'm still pretty green I guess you could say.

i just use my tractor and a 3pt blade. and just hover it a inch up and then leave it after that and then next snow all is good. Pads work well also as they are consistant. Snowblowers are awsome also, but same thing you need to hover/pads so you dont suck the gravel up as they create alot of suction.
