Hi There,

I am new to the forum and I'm and interested in sport ATVs. I have rode street motorcycles for over thirty years and still have a 2009 HD fatboy. As a child I had dirt bikes and snow machines. I have experience with 2 stroke and 4 stroke and manual transmission which I prefer.

I no longer want to drive my HD Fatboy and was considering selling to buy a sport ATV.

Based on my research the sport ATVs are not as popular as they once where. I am a disabled Veteran so I have no intentions of long trail adventures. There is a MX track nearby in Kanata, On. mx101 that I have access to ride. It's an MX track and they don't encourage ATVs but there is a couple of riders now and they let ATV memberships. I am retired so I could use the track a couple of times a week for fun.

So a little advice from the experienced here on the forum for my first purchase.

I am 56 years old 5' 8" and weigh 170 lbs. I have reasesrched Yamaha and Honda sport ATVs. It seems the Honda does not make the smaller bore ATVs like 250cc.

Suggestions for a sport ATVs for my age a size would be appreciated. Also, I will have to trailer the quad so suggestions for a single trailer as well. New or used condition is okay.

Thanks in advance,

Troy

If you don’t mind me asking, was is the disability? Is a dirt bike out of the question?

I had bikes, a couple buddies had Honda 450’s for years.

They had a blast in the right environment. Other times it was pure hell for them.

Both guys have recently converted over to bikes and say they are having more fun.

If a bike is out, how about something like a can am renegade, Way better suspension. Ground clearance, and power.

Leave it in 2 wheel drive for the sport quad experience with out the bullshat.

I was medically retired from the military due to a brain injury overseas in 2003. A dirt bike is not out of the question. I have all my limbs but after 21 years of service my body is pretty banged up and thought an ATV would be easier on the body. Wanting to sell my street bike but still interested to ride just not on the streets anymore. I had a close call on my Harley this summer due to a distracted driver on cell phone. Cheers.

Welcome to S&M Troy. There are a ton of options and the best fit for you is going to depend on what thing or things you want to do. I think ripping around on an MX track would be fun...for a little while anyway. A bike or high performance ATV would be likely the way to go for that use. The Honda ATV's are for slow reliable performance for work and cruising. I have one and use it for utility and the occasional trail ride. It is not an exciting ride but that isn't what I am aiming for.

From a riding excitement only point of view the only thing I like about ATV's over bikes is that I don't fall over when I stop. Bikes require balance and far more input than I am interested in giving for pretty much everything I do. Two wheels are way more versatile IMO although there are some high performance ATV's too.

A big question is how much money are you willing to spend? That will ultimately be the deciding factor.

My budget is 10k and under. Still deciding between sport ATV and MX bike. They don't encourage ATVs at the local MX track but they do have a couple of riders and willing to let more ATVs. I have experience with two wheels but never drove a ATV.
