We moved to Calgary July, 2016. My wife and I enjoyed riding at Candle, Nipawin, and Hudson Bay, SK. We ride crossover 142" Cats and we are in no way interested in avalanche risk. Too many kids and life full of other great hobbies.

Would like some some links to close rides. Went to Cataract and enjoyed the day with the Calgary Snowmobile Club.

How were the trails yesterday at Crowsnest?

East of the Rockies and west of the rest.
If you are looking for trail riding Fernie is a bit farther than the Crowsnest and they have a pretty nice groomed trail. You can go from the staging area and access two warm up shelters and go all the way to the notch and check out the guys climbing and have fun in some meadows and keep yourself out of avalanche terrain. If you stay on groomed trail it is hard to get lost. The notch is a dead end using a TransCanads pipeline right of way and the trail does a loop around the rolling hills. There are a few good pulls on the way to the notch but not too bad.

And depending on the logging activity you could also go down the MacEvoy and meet up with the pipeline and do a loop that way, but it won't be groomed for a stretch.

We were at the S.T.A.R.S. Ride yesterday in the Crowsnest Pass, staging out of Atlas. The day was great, enough snow on the excellently groomed trail for the ride, "hero snow" on the one mountain climb I did (like hard packed trail, but on a 25-30 degree angle), and excellent lunch provided by Polaris. A lot of talk of the coming closure of the trails south of Highway #3 there, and the restriction of trails over 6,000 feet. We do not know exactly what Phillips and Notley have planned, but if it is anything like how they handled the Castle announcement, expect more lying and stealing from those two.
