Cool Guns

Well, 100% on the written and 100% on the practical. It's all common sense. Debating on making a private range on the farm here so I don't need to join a club. And that way I can shoot the restricted guns at home.

So far, got a couple toys in mind. One not a restricted, and one is.

Barnett Recruit compound crossbow, seems to be a good entry level crossbow. It's on sale right now at cabelas. http://www.cabelas.ca/product/57398/barnett-recruit-compound-crossbow-package-w-red-dot

And to try find a good used ar-15, something cheaper just to get familiar with them. So I can learn the mechanics and do's and do nots on something not worth a months wage.

Probably will need your county approval as well as your neighbours. Not sure what the regulations are for the restricted guns. You may have to have club status? I know it is illegal to shoot one on private land. Straight line to and from the range or gunsmith with no detours.

Private ranges can be done. There are a couple write ups on CGN from guys that have jumped through the hoops to get it done.

Keep in mind I don't live in a rural residential area. Basically just farm land around me.

From what I've been told at my course is that it has to be to regulation. Nothing about neighbouring permission, maybe Municipality permit knows. Only the dirt ridge around/behind the target area, ample room behind target area for strays/ricochets. They come out take a topographical map, and doesn't cost me a dime to get them to come out. Only my time and fuel for dirt work with my machine.

Only problem is then it's now listed in the rcmp database a location and such. Tannerite is going to happen quite often. Especially since cabelas has it on sale 1/2 price lol.

The Calgary District Target Shooters just did $1,000,000+ worth of dirt work for their new facility about 2 miles from my house as the crow flies. Very remote quarter of land that had to go through county approval and open hearings. It was finally approved after 1 objection from the owner of a quarter that borders it. She is a widower and does not have any buildings or anything at stake and I think that is why she lost her case with the Municipal Planning Commission for the county. All I am saying is check with your county and neighbors first, the RCMP and the CFO for guidance before doing anything. I would hate to see you invest a bunch and then have it turned down on you. Lucky for me I have a 973c track loader for dirt work, and my own hand to do the work. Alberta vs Saskatchewan might be different. I never heard anything about needing neighbour approval being needed. Everyone around me just goes and shoots where ever whenever. Won't change from how much I shoot now vs having a private range. Literally all I would need to do is make a pile where I would want to shoot. Or if I wanted to get creative make a inverted face to absorb the bullets down. But unnecessary in my opinion.

Done some dirt work at the farm already prep for a cold storage building, 100x60 pad. Comparing what it started off as to what it is now is a huge change. I'll se if I can find a before picture anywhere.

Im jealous. I wish I had a large parcel of land to ride and shoot on. Full section would work.

2200 acres we Farm. But we're small fries. Neighbour has 30,000 acres. And the new guy around us has 90,000 by switch current and just bought about 20,000 by us.

But back on topic. Last night took my savage m-25 in .223 out blew a shot on a coyote. No idea where it went. Foolish I was, should've waited or tried to creep up on it. By any kinda hard when it's bald prairie with 2-3" barley plants....

12x zoom makes me think I'm a pro. When I'm really not lol

You will need to contact the CFO for Sask., they will tell you exactly what needs to be done to pass inspection and get a private range running.

Welp. Its here. It was a long wait but I have my new rifle. It was built for me by F1 Firearms in Texas. By far the nicest AR I have ever had in my hands by FAR!! I just need to pick up some mags for it and I can get it to the range. I almost got one in 6.5 creedmore but decided to get it in .223 Wylde. They will be releasing their bolt action, and at that time I will get the 6.5 made. Here are a couple pics I took of it while in the case before I throw my Atlas bipod on it. I will probably get another night force scope on it as well.

wont let me link pictures for some reason , This M14 i purchased a M14 - stock out of USA it was a Vietnam stock that was never used - it has the selector area carved out still , sanded it down and refinished it.
changed out plenty of parts on this rifle with USGA parts & hand-loaded it too very amazing results.

Shoots great "now".

You cant find them easy anymore with a tiger stripe or any decent patterns they are all gone now.

For a cheap entry level AR, instead of going used I recommend buying the S&W M&P 15 Sport II. They are priced at around $700 from a lot of Canadian gun stores that do mail-order.

Cabelas has them on their website. I see they are the model 1 with no dust cover though. I do like the new features of the second version.

Why wouldn't you recommend used?

I have one of those too, it's my dad's first gun. It needs a new barrel though, dad wore it out
