Anyone got any suggestions on a nice gun for me to buy and set away for my Son. I'm not sure what I want to get him. I thought it would be cool to buy one and leave it in the box and lock it away for about twenty years. Maybe a 1911, Would like to try to pick something that will steadily increase in value, but I know its impossible to predict the future.

If you get something like a 1911 to store make sure it is sealed in the box and packaging. It might be impossible to do with our laws though as it has to be double locked before it leaves the store.

Buy him something already collectable? Nice 30-30 Winchester collectors?

My co-worker has one. We were shooting at my range this past summer and after replacing the 500yrd paper target I forgot my drink sitting on the stand. He shot my red solo cup at 500yrds the bugger. It shoots real good I'd say.

I brought home one of the most collectable rifles I could ever imagine. I have wanted it for years. It is a 30-30 that used to belong to my grandfather for many many years. When he passed my dad got the rifle and held on to it. It is now mine and I heard the story behind it. It used to belong to a neighbour that couldn't shot worth a ****. So he let my grandfather use it. Every time he would shot a moose he would give the give some meat. We aren't sure if he ever did pay for the rifle with any cash or not. I don't know if I will ever shoot it again but it has been well used and shows it on the stock. But I know it still works well.

So got a tikka 30-06 now in the market for a scope thought id throw it out there. Looking at the vortex diamondback hp nice scope and cant beat the warranty. Open to real world experiences dont really need all the tactical laser stuff just a nice clear scope with good eye relief.

I have a vortex 6x24x50 on my tikka. It's a good scope. Think it was about $700 if I remember correctly and can't beat that warranty for sure

Vortex is a great scope, I put a diamondback 3x9x40 on the wives 243 x-bolt and worked well at the range a few weeks ago. I bought myself a Sako 85 Barvarian 30-06 and was looking at putting on a high quality Vortex on it, but after looking around last weekend for a bit, I ended up going with Leupold VX-3. 4.5x14x40 boone and crockett. Leupold has a great warranty as well. I'll post a pic of it shortly.

Was tossing around the vx3 as well but warranty is good but not as good...you find the leupold lets in as much light or do you find with the bigger zoom lose some light?

I just got it mounted friday afternoon and haven't put a round through it yet but the fellas at cabelas said it has a better lens, so we'll see. Also I spent a lot on the rifle and wanted to make sure that I wasn't cheaping out on the scope.
