Here's a clip from our chocolate labs Pedro and Mawson from last year. I grew up duck and goose hunting with my dad and grandpa, and we always had labs. We used to field trial them too. It's been a long time for me, but last year I got back into it with the 2 brown boys. They were amazing. Pedro is the oldest. He was 1 1/2 at the time. His first duck retrieve was a water retrieve and he rocked it. That boy is so fast and such a natural. He takes off like a rocket, and comes back twice as fast. Mawson the youngest was 7 months old when this video was shot. He's hilarious. A bit of a smart arse, he does everything in his own time.
I'm really looking forward to taking them out again in the fall. We're working on hand signals with Pedro now. He's such a phenomenal boy and learns so fast. I couldn't be more proud of them.

Yep I do! My last dog was a chocolate lab, Cooper, my current dog, Jase, is a 4 year old Deutsch Drahthaar, we mostly hunt waterfowl & ruffed grouse, he is also trained to track blood. There is nothing better than the bond between man & dog.
This is him on one of our hunts last fall.

Awesome video!!!! Man you sure had patience when you kept calling waiting for the rest of the flock to come back. Pedro and Mawson were trying to jump into my lap top with all the goose sounds coming from it!
Pedro's first goose ever landed in the Goat river. It was high water and running pretty swift but he got er done! I was so proud of him.

I've got a wire-haired pointer that lives for birds. Mostly upland but doesn't mind waterfowl. Pretty solid breed when comes to hunting. Only dog iv'e seen pull birds to you without pulling the trigger.

We love our bird dogs, 10 yr old shorthair...Pearl and 1/12 yr old pointing lab...Pepper. Lots of upland, phez, quail and chuckar..wild birds. Some waterfowl too. Pepper is a machine, both are solid pointers and great personalities.

So we added another to the crew. Kamma... aka Kamma Lamma Lamma Lamma Bing Bong, named after Kamma Creek. She's a fiesty one. The boys totally take a beating from her. She's 7 months old and this will be her first season hunting. She is so willing to retrieve, is like an otter in the water, and has absolutely zero hestitation on her water entry (been diving off of docks since she was super young)

So our Young Pup Kamma who is 7 months old is a pretty cool little beast. When out hunting yesterday we shot a grouse. (Pedro the rockstar found it in super thick timber, it was awesome)
When we got home, we let Kamma out and put the boys in the run. We were curious if she too had the birding in her so before I cleaned and prepped it we tried a little experiment. I placed the grouse out in the back field, and my husband sent her for the retrieve. First time she's seen a dead bird, but she picked it up and brought it back. Her mouth was so incredibly soft. I increased the distance, and she kept on retrieving, building confidence.

By the 3rd retrieve she was sprinting for the retrieve. She was soooo proud of herself! Incredible little girl. She's ready for ducks and geese!

When I read the name "gun dog" I pictured a dog with guns somehow mounted to it. I should try that with Frank

Frank would rock a turret for sure. One of your littles could saddle him up and terrorize the neighborhood.
