Friend had a demo one May Long. Not good. Too low to the ground. No power. No low range. And yes we towed it a lot.

Not sure what Honda was thinking. The 700 is a farmhand POS. The 1000 is a totally different machine and has all the good stuff.

We just picked up the Honda Pioneer 1000-5, we plan on taking it out next weekend and I will report back about how it went. We had the Can-Am Commander 1000 for a couple of years, too noisy in the cab, more than enough power though, but hubby did not like the maintenance and he is a mechanic.

So here is the lowdown on the Pioneer 1000-5, absolutely love it. Quiet cab, can carry on a conversation without yelling, does not get as hot either (we have full roof)as commander . Hubby loves the shifting, and no belts to worry about. Not as quick as 1000 commander, but hey how fast do you need to go on trails. We rode the Peace Trail from Fawcett Lake to past the Athabasca river, round trip 140kms , still had over 1/4 tank left over, mind you on the first leg it was a break-in ride, and that part of the trails is very easy, he actually used turf mode for a bit. Only had a couple of skeg parts to go through, no problem. Even the bench seat only got uncomfortable near the end of the day, but we were gone almost 8 hours. When we go off trail,(after ban is lifted) and get into real exploring might be a more true test of machine. No real hills to test climbing and engine braking there either.

quick stop beside Athabasca river

Try this again, we have had the Pioneer 1000 out now for a few weekends, absolutely love it, smoother ride than the Commander we had and we had a RZR 800 owner come ride on Sunday and he commented how smooth it was compared to his, he also like that it sits higher. Hubby rode in Turf Mode, aka 1 wheel drive for most of the time, even through some parts where you might think to put it in 4x4, but no chugged right through. Like all sxs's though it sinks when in wet skeg, but in the drier stuff no problem. Power band is very smooth, shifting is spot on and if you don't like it, there is paddle shifting whenever you want. The only small gripe is that the doors rattle when riding at slow speed on the road, but don't notice it when on the trail.

Good review Ive had my pioneer 1000 5 for about a month now and have about 12 hrs on it now and love it too it is very smooth I also had a commander and then a maverick before and the one thing I dont miss is those belts I always seemed to have problems but hopefully the pioneer will stand the test of time !

Oh ya and if u want to get rid of the door rattle just wrap some electrical tape around the door hinge and that will take care of that!
