i've been looking at the new garmin gps's, been looking at the rino 650, oregon 450 and the montana 600/650

i definitely like the larger screen on the montana and the ability to use different batteries. the oregon has a smaller screen, less money, but would be cheaper and do all i want, smaller screan though. rino has the radio and locating features, but very few in the riding group have one, so most of the features are useless. i also already have a couple older rinos.

looking to use the gps on the ranger and sledding trips. toss up between 650 rino and the 650 montana.

Me and my riding buddies have the rhino 650 from the states( higher wattage) and wouldn't ride without it.

I got the Montana 650t and like it. Mounted it to sled. Screen size is nice and works all the way down to -24 so far

yes i am looking at the rino 650 but the screen is small(2.6 diagonal) compared to the montana at 4 inch diagonal. I have had the rino radios for close to 8 yrs or so, very few of riding buds have them, thus i'm thinking of something else. otherwise i like the 650 montana.

looks good, how easy is it to view while riding etc. i know with the 530hcx rino i had it in a coat poket and had tostop to view. on and off with glasses became a real pain.

not real confident with handle bar mounts.

It is really easy to see while ridin there. I have a fairly large handle bar bag that blocks it a little but I only ever look at while stopped mainly

looks like a good location for the unit. do you have it on a tether cord for safety?

not sure if it is required, but it may not be findable if it came off in the snow. i lost my rino out west of drayton valley in about 3 ft of powder snow. went to the ground as far as i could tell. tried to find it with a survey pin locator no luck. fell out of pocket, will have to take a look in the spring. was looking at a few replacement gps's, lots to choose from, oregon 400 on at gps city for $199, and i can get the montana 600 at communication group for $450. 490 for the 650 montana. just doing the him and ha right now. still like the rino 650 for what it can do. gps central had the cdn version on at $399.

For what it's worth, I still like my Rino even tho' it is 2W. If I were to buy another I would be in the same boat as you. I like larger screens. I would also like the 5W.

The one thing I wouldn't change would be the re-chargeable lithium batteries. I never run out of juice during an outing. Lots of talk and always tracking.

yes i agree. definitely like the large sceen, also the radio feature. if i could get a definitive answer on the 5watt upgrade i would buy the 650 rino as the cdn. price is real good. was $399 at gps central before christmas. the oregon 450 is on close out at $199 with a 3 in diag screen, but i have been eyeing the montana 600 @$450 and the 650 @$490. like the 4 inch screen. way easier on the eyes.

the canadian rino is set at 2 watts max while the us version is 5 watts of radio transmit power. there is supposed to be a relaxation on the canadian maximum power this year. but who knows? us model rinos are not supposed to be sold here, but you can buy in us and bring em back. i have heard that u can get the 5 watt upgrade to a canadian unit if you can download the upgrades while on a us computer addy? but no idea. sales people won't say.

I have the rino and same issue, no one I ride with has one. Either need to talk them into them or wish I had gotten the montana and a motorola radio.

We had 4 rino 650t in our group last week and I will never ride with out it again .... its so nice to just look on the screen and see where a guy is at especially when you ask him where he is at and his reply is the complete wrong way lol ... I got mine shipped up from the states and I think all total I was just over 500
