It is helpful. Most US places won't even ship up here. Not sure what the deal is. Sort of reminds me of Sirius Radio when it first came out. Couldn't get them here, but they work just the same. Oh well. I see there are a few on ebay right now, reasonable shipping too....

Doing some more reading, and it said the transmit wattage was 2.0 in Canada and 5.0 in the USA... lame. If a guy buys a US model (which they all appear to be) will it be the 5 watter, or does it automatically switch over in the lovely north?

All the rhino models are like that. I think if they are sold in Canada or are destined for Canada they are supposed to have the 5W disabled. Bought my 530 on ebay from the US and it SAYS it's 5W. not sure how you'd know for sure. range seems good.

Mine is the 5W, if you look the part #'s are different between the 5W and 2W. Never turned off the 5W...not sure how you would do that. You can turn off the FMR, I think its called, but Ive never seen where you switch from 5 to 2W

not a user function. This is just what some folks trying to mail order them out of the states from stores told me they ran into.

Any more updates on how these are working. Do you guys like them? Thinking about getting a couple of 655t's from the states because they have 5W.

I have a 530 currently, and I had a chance to use the 655 in a 5W set up. We had two 655's in 5W and they are very slick. The screen navigation is way easier with the touch function than my 530. It's close to a smart phone in map speed, and the radios are very clear and crisp. The find your buddy function is great. It can pin point someone within a few feet, and if i remember correctly, i think it will even tell you their speed and direction..... I was super impressed with the 650/655 and I am going to buy a few in the states the next time I am down there.

As for the 5W 2W variable in Canada, you can change the American version from 5W to 2W, but not the other way around for the Canadian ones. And a tip for anyone with a canadian 530, you can't broadcast in 2W in the first few channels on those radios. You have to be above a certain channel number to even broadcast in 2W. If you're not, you're stuck in 1/2W broadcast mode. really sucks if you're in the mountains....

They work really well. Don't expect miracles outta them but they work pretty damn good. Battery life is great IMO

I have been using the 530 for the past couple years, and just bought the 650. Seems a lot easier to navigate around. The only thing that I don't like is that the 530 would have your contacts on the side of the screen and you could scroll through them where the 650 you have to go into your contacts on the main screen to navigate to them, which i'm sure will be fine, just have to get use to the unit.

I have heard that the screens are sensitive to cold weather and don't work that well on cold days. Anybody have any information on this concept?

Never a prob with mine. Keep it on inside pocket with mic attachment to outside though.

were picking up 6 of these in Vegas next month, how well does the mic work? I've had a sno phone radio with the boom mic and it always picked up the can noise and made it very annoying for the other guys with them on.

They work really well IMO. Very little feedback noise.
