Anybody have experience with the mobile uhv/vhf radios? Looking at putting one in my truck so I can leave the handheld in the atv. Will be programing it with bc new logging Chan plus road Chan. Don't want to spend a huge amount on a radio. Also how good do those little nub antennas work?

Not at all familiar with those, but looks like a nice compact radio. Dual band is a plus.

SSSSSShhhh can't say that CRTC will get all up in your grille... They have to be preprogrammed channels

Can't get a shop to program one for you without you having a license.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

The licence was 40.00 yearly. You can get ticket and radios confescated if cought without. CB city at the old roadking now super 8 truck stop in sherwood park sells them and can program your radios too. Legaly.

How much range can you get out of a handheld radio on the bush roads? Enough to be safe? Better than nothing I suppose?

You can't just buy an Amateur Radio license can you?
What about finding an examiner and writing/passing the exam?
I thought that was the rule?

Actually the 2 radios posted are classified as ham radios. different licence (i think) pretty sure depending on how well you did on the test is your classification of licence. 80% and above gives you petty much a unrestricted ham licence for any and all freq and one time fee. and if using them for RR or ladd the keypad has to be disabled so you cannot program it on the fly... Not sure when the last time i herd of someone getting finned for no licence.. 80% of the drivers have no licence..lol.. does not mean it cant happen though.

my standard horizon portable was receiving from 35km away not sure what the guy had that was calling out. Not sure what my send is.. probably only a few km at best on a fsr.. i want to put a radio in my truck and leave the portable in the atv or give it to the lead or trailing driver so they can hear whats happening..

yes you have to find a instructor in your area for amateur radio licence and have a instructor lead test.

Had a chat with a log truck driver up the hill today.
He expressed much gratitude for sledders who care enough to have radios in their trucks.
Makes their day so much easier.

ya something that ca be fairly cheap can save a life... As far as im concerned all rental veh should have one even if its just on scan. i lost track on how many times i got ran off the road this year by tourists in rental cars driving on the wrong side of the road in blind corners.

We've been pretty consistently getting 10km out of our Baofeng handhelds on FSR's, so usually enough to be safe. I still run a fixed radio in my truck though.
