Anybody out there have this Map on their Rino? I'm considering buying it for Sledding in McBride area, Revy, Sicamous, Golden, etc. Any words of wisdom? Just got my 650 but it appears the map doesn't have much detail.

I have the 650 and purchased the map. It does have more detail, but takes a moment to update while on the trail. I might not have everything set correctly but it really works well when planning for the area I'm going to be riding in - while on my laptop. Then download to the device and off I go. Purchase it and have some fun! It's interesting once you download and see all the places you were and the terrain.

are you downloading to base-camp? I have done both. I have two 650 s and 1 has the British Columbia back-county chip and I can view contours and see the changes in elevation on both the unit and basecamp when that unit is hooked up. I have also downloaded to google earth which is interesting to see the tree coverage. The problem with the back country chips is it is a one time deal and if the sled trails are rerouted it will not be updated so its almost better to make your own track. I have heard of birdseye view but must not have come across topo canada. Is it the fact the the topo is of all of canada you have to download sections because of memory issues?

I used Garmin Topo Canada on my Rino and other Garmin GPS's with no issues. It is 1:50,000 if I remember correctly and as detailed as I have seen for any other product. Since I have the complete Canada version I select the area I want which is basically the entire BC/AB provinces and upload that to my memory card. I have never come close to using all the memory and likely have hundreds of waypoints and just as many tracks saved.

Once uploaded you will have to ensure that the map you wish to use is selected on your Rino otherwise it will just show the standard world base map which is useless. I also have additional maps like the Southern AB OHV trails and they overlay right onto my Topo.

You can find free versions of Topo and there are lots of people who use those. Comparing the free versions to my Garmin topo I find the clarity of the map and detail level to be higher on mine than on my buddies who run the free stuff. Maybe they just haven't found the good versions.

What size of a memory card do you require?

Just got back from Calgary had full coverage with my samsung a tab using memory maps all the way, there is so much crap on there i could of handed the pilots my tablet and they could have landed that plane in a white out. But Mach 1 you are going to have to make sure your phone has a built in gps, next just because you download the memory map app does not mean it will work offline, you have to download the offline area using the route... drawing lines on the map then download the enclosed area...a bit challenging at first. There are so many maps supplied from them including nautical maps, and satellite linkups with licensing agreements. You may want to try google earth app too and set the cache to high and zoom into the area you are going to and let it clear up. And google maps app, you will have to download offline maps as well ..amazing for car navigation.

How you making out mach1 overwhelmed yet? The Delorme L12 that come with it may as well download bc alb and Sask if you go any higher like Delorme L15 your going to have to pay for it. If you already purchased the $19.99... BC 1:50000 that comes with 1:250000 as well go to more maps to find it and download the whole province ... about a 1 hr download. Then pick the areas in 1:50000 ...or if you have the 10hr or so waiting time for the whole province go for it. You might want to know any laptop will work to and you can have 3d topo maps as well. That tab on the top is a drop down menu, tons of info there. Anyone who is a pilot on here will really want to try this out it is all free.... well except for the laptop hardware that is 50 bucks or so.
